Decorating Ideas to Enhance Your Bathroom Decor

A Little Money, a Little Time Can Make a Big Difference!

If we spent as much time in our home bathroom each day as we do in our living room or bedroom, you could be certain that it would receive as much attention as those other living spaces when it comes to redecorating. This is true whether we are talking about a tiny powder room in a home or a large restroom in an office building. I have been a homemaker for over 35 years and I would like to share a few tips I have found to revitalize the look and feel of our bathrooms without spending a lot of money.

Although the time spent in this room each day may be short, its functions are vitally important to our well-being. It is in this room that we prepare ourselves to go out into the world each day and where we go to remove the dirt and grime (actual and emotional) after returning to our home each evening. In the business world, whether we are conscious of the thoughts or not, we may base our decision about whether or not to give a store our business partly on the cleanliness of the store's restroom! If a business owner doesn't care enough to keep their restrooms clean and inviting, we may decide to look for their products elsewhere. So whatever we can do to make this room a relaxing "sanctuary" will only serve to increase its worth.

What changes can you make to improve the "vibes" in your bathroom? After a thorough cleaning and polishing of everything in the room, one of the least expensive changes is probably a new paint job, where a gallon of new paint can completely revitalize a dingy space. Choose a clean fresh paint color - perhaps something inspired by nature - like a mint green, a sunshine yellow, a sky blue. Make sure the paint is washable - no room gets dirty like a bathroom!

Consider changing out the bathroom fixtures - the options are endless! Faucets may be purchased in the simplest of styles or in elegant opulence. They can be found in brass, nickel, and chrome, with touches of painted porcelain or even Swarovski crystal!

Are you happy with your shower? Replacing the showerhead can greatly enhance your bathing experience for a relatively inexpensive price. Decide what kind of shower you prefer - a soft misting rinse or a heavy stinging cascade of water. Or perhaps the ability to adjust the showerhead and get a little of both? Maybe you would like a hand-held shower for ease in washing your hair or washing the lather off your legs?

How about changing out the towel racks and soap baskets? Metal, wood, porcelain, glass - find a style that speaks to you. Then coordinate with new drawer and door knobs for a quick and easy update!

Look for unique accessories for your bathroom at a discount or thrift store. Fill a tall glass vase with soaps or sparkling bath salts. Place a beautiful basket on a counter or the back of your toilet, and fill it with hand towels or your library of reading materials for the bath! Think "outside the box" when it comes to hanging artwork on the walls - it doesn't always have to be "bathroom-like" to be beautiful!

It doesn't take much time or money to make this small room one of the most inviting in your home!
