Play Room Decor
Play room decor should be functional, yet whimsical. Pick a pleasing paint palette, with two or three colors plus a crisp, neutral white. Keep all of the wall's white in the play room decor will make it easier to grow the room with your child.
Choose colors related to the three primary colors of red, blue and yellow. For a boy, or a bolder look opt for dark hues of these colors. For a girl, or for a softer play room decor choose pastel hue of the primary colors.
Any of these paint ideas will work to create a play room decor for more than one child of different genders. The basis is the three primary colors, which are appealing to all children.
Play Room Decor and Comfort
When planning the play room decor for the perfect kid's play room, comfort is a major consideration. The room should have a some type of carpeting on the floor. Kids spend a lot of time on the floor, playing, even when other seating is available.
Opt for durable carpet that is also easy to install. Consider creating unique playroom decor with a variety of carpet tile squares. You can make designs in the carpet with the carpet tiles.
Play room decor could include neutral carpet tiles with yellow squares forming a road, like the yellow brick road in The Wizard of Oz.
Or, use the carpet tile squares to create an indoor hopscotch game. You could even create a giant checkerboard on the carpet with the carpet squares by alternating the tiles in your fun play room decor.
Play Room Decor and Function
One of the best ways to plan pay room decor is to base the room's decor and design on the activities your child enjoys. Make a floorplan of the room, marking off different areas of the room for child's play.
The Reading Area
Kids like to sit in front of or next to bookshelves when they read. Play room decor, even for a toddler should include an inviting book shelf stocked with books. Add a small child-sized rocking chair the play room decor.
Also consider a comfortable small seating are for reading time. A corner chair with a decorative pillow would be a great addition to the play room decor.
Remember to include appropriate lighting by the reading area.
Activity Station
Add a small table and chairs to the room, in a corner, or in the center of the room. Use a vinyl or other washable tablecloth or covering to protect the floor beneath the table.
Everything In Its Place
Play room decor should focus on organization. Invest in storage units and bins which suit each purpose. The pieces can be different shapes and sizes, but try to make them all the same color, to create a cohesive look to the room.
Use bookshelves, wicker baskets, plastic bins, file boxes, and any other storage items which hold your child's favorite toys and arts and crafts supplies.
Child's Art Wall
Celebrate the child's artwork in the perfect kid's playroom by creating a museum wall for their best artwork. Kids love to know that you value their work. Framing their artwork and hanging it in their room will encourage them on their future creative journeys.
Using a child's own art in the decor also lends an air of personalization that you cannot achieve with store-bought artwork.
Minimal Electronics
Play room decor should be kept clean, minimal and simple. Minimize or eliminate electronics which demand visual attention from the kids, including TVs and hand-held games. A CD player may enhance your play room decor.
When the child is not distracted by visually-based electronics, the perfect playroom becomes a place to explore, create and imagine.
Lighting
Make sure each area of the room is lit properly.
