Decorating for the Christmas holiday is fun as a family or classroom event. One way to get your children or students involved in a Christmas related project is to decorate a miniature Christmas tree.

Here are five ideas you can use when decorating a miniature Christmas tree with kids.

1. Make your own ornaments. Most kids like to use their imaginations. Put their imaginations and creativity to good use by having them make their own ornaments for the miniature Christmas tree. If a child likes to work with paper, let him or her create colorful paper ornaments. Make them three dimensional. If another child is fond of clay, he or she can create clay ornaments and let them harden before hanging. Tailor the ornament project to the child's interest. This is their own tree for them to do as they like.

2. Use keychain items. If you want to purchase ornament items for the miniature Christmas tree, but what to get create, purchase keychain items to use as ornaments. There are a lot of great key chains available as souvenirs or in toy stores. They can double as ornaments. Let the children choose their favorites to decorate the miniature Christmas tree.

3. Use lighting. There is Christmas lighting available for miniature Christmas tree. Let the kids choose if they want multi-colored lighting or one color, such as blue or white. Choose something that complements any ornaments the children might hang. This is a good time to teach children about color coordination and decor.

4. Spray paint the mini Christmas tree. If the kids don't want a green tree, consider letting them spray paint it a different color. Since the tree is small, it won't appear gaudy as, say, a large full size purple tree. Use newspaper or painting tarp to protect any surfaces while you spray paint the tree. You'll want to avoid using lighting on the tree as to not create any fire risk. The miniature Christmas tree.

5. Popcorn on a string. Kids will love popping and stringing popcorn to hang on their mini Christmas tree. And since the tree is small, it won't take long to have a fully dressed popcorn tree. The kids can eat the extra popcorn as a reward for their hard work.

Now that you've got some ideas for decorating a miniature Christmas tree with the kids, you're ready to get started creating a project they'll enjoy all holiday season long.
