Decorating a Play Room that Your Child will Enjoy for Years
Play Time for the Kids in Their Own Play Room
When setting up a play room for your own child there are a number of safe, fun and entertaining (even educational) things you can add. One of the first things my parents put in my play room was an old radio. My radio had a record player where I could play a collection of old 45s and LPs that we purchased at a yard sale. I spent hours listening to those records, singing and dancing along and tapping out the beats as they played in the back ground.
Most every kid at some point likes to draw. Adding an over size chalk board on the wall and providing colored chalk will give them hours of fun in their play room. I have a picture somewhere of my chalk board where I drew a picture of the United States. Afterwards my mom and I sat and played a game of naming all of the states.
Sitting up a card table and adding a few folding chairs will give your child a place to sit while drawing or playing games with friends. In addition you can add an old dresser or filing cabinet to store paper, crayons, markers, games and other things your child will use in their play room. We used a card table to allow me the chance to take it down, making more room for other things. Also my mom had many drawings on hanging in her kitchen that I created in my play room
Adding a large area rug in your child's play room is a great way to protect the floor. Opposed to carpeting area rugs are easy to clean and replace when needed. Play room area rugs also allow you and your child to quickly change styles and look as your child grows older. For me this was a very important aspect of my play room. Over the years I removed the area rug so I could set up weights and other items to reflex my advancing age. My parents were thankful too, since I had a bad habit of spilling many different things on the rug (paint, glue, soda, etc).
When my parents fixed up my play room they tried to make it as personal as possible. My dad built me a toy box with my name engraved on the lid. Not only did this give me a place to store all of my toys, it provided me structure in picking up after myself. If you can't build your child his own toy box a dresser or even store bought toy box will do just fine.
What is your child's favorite color? This is an important thing to consider when sitting up their play room. Also don't forget their favorite cartoon character or action figure. Making their play room as personal for them as possible will enhance their enjoyment. Ask them to help paint their new play room. Allow them to be crazy with their style and design - mixing and matching how and where they apply each stroke of the paint brush. Putting hand and foot prints on the wall will increase their pleasure and the fun they will have in their very own play room. My parents had me go with them to pick out the paint color and even the new curtains when they set up my play room.
A play room for your child can be one of my most rewarding things you can give your child. Making it personal for them will help them feel proud of inviting friends over for hours of laughs, fun and entertainment.

I had a playroom as a child, too. It was a place where imagination and acting like a kid was not only allowed, but actually encouraged. That's why my children have a playroom of their own. It's their space. Excellent topic, Jeff!
Fun article. Now if only I could get it together to clean my own "play area up".....
Great information! You do need to take time to proofread, though.
