Decorating a Shabby Chic College Dorm Room

Going off to college means a time of freedom and independence. It's now your home away from home. So why not make sure that your dorm room or college apartment room is decorated beautifully? After all, you will spend many hours here studying, watching T.V., hanging out with friends, etc. Here is a guide to decorating a Shabby Chic college dorm room that will inspire you whenever you walk through the doors.

Bedding

First start with beautiful bedding. Rachel Ashwell's Shabby Chic collection has a line of college dorm extra long twin size sheets and bedding. When I was in college, shopping for the college bed sheets, all I had to choose from were dull solid colors. Nothing beautiful and inspiring. But, now, you can go to any local Target, and find beautiful college bed sheets from Shabby Chic for an affordable price. You can get the bedding and comforter in the extra long twin size. I was so excited when I discovered this. Then you can add cute little pillows to accessorize the bed with. I would suggest also getting a Shabby Chic quilt to interchange with from time to time, or just for extra warmth during the winter.

Storage

Ross department store has delightful, beautifully painted trashcans, that add a touch of beauty to a room. Shabby Chic also sells floral designed canvas storage bins. You can use these to place books, magazines, notebooks, or any other item that you choose inside of them for storage. It would like nice sitting on the floor next to your desk, or under your desk if there is room.

Hatboxes also make great storage boxes. And they are really beautiful, too. Ross and Marshall's sell hatboxes at a very reasonable price. There, or Wal-Mart you can find storage containers that go underneath the bed. I have many light pink containers for under my bed and for my closet.

On your desk, you can place a pretty cup to hold your pens and pencils. I had two pretty pink and white mugs to hold my pens and pencils, and people always commented on how cute the mugs were. It added charm to my otherwise drab college desk.

Miscellaneous

Hang up a pretty pin up board to pin important notes and papers. You can also buy pretty stationery and paper to use to write notes for yourself to pin up on the board. Pretty calendars are great for the busy college student. Shabby Chic sells beautiful and ultra feminine rugs of varying sizes, that would add beauty to any dorm room. Don't forget to have a cute lamp for your desk with a pretty shade. Shabby Chic also sells pretty vintage-looking lamps. Any lamp with a pretty lampshade in soft, pretty colors would be perfect for your room.

Just because you're in college, doesn't mean that your room décor has to be drab and boring. You can still have a comfortable, inviting, inspiring, and lovely room to come home to after class each day. Having a room filled with beauty is important, because you have a refreshing place to unwind every day, while juggling the demands of classes and other activities.
