You don't have to own matching dishes, silverware, and linens just to decorate your dining room table either. In fact, it's sometimes much more fun to mix and match a variety of items and styles, to create your very own unique decor. And if you love to shop at flea markets and yard sales, the best part of the process will be hunting down various treasures to use in your personalized decorating theme!
You also don't have to wait until you've collected every single item you want before you actually start your dining room decorating project. Starting small and adding as you go is perfectly acceptable.
If you have a small kitchen table or breakfast bar for instance, you could start your new decorating theme by simply creating, finding, or buying an attractive centerpiece. Table centerpieces can be simple and small too - grab your favorite coffee cup for instance, and fill it with water. Then stick some fresh cut flowers, leaves and berries from a bush, or just some general greenery in the cup and viola! You now have a pretty centerpiece.
There are many other creative ways to create attractive table centerpieces too. You could for instance, create a silverware bouquet. Pick a pretty glass, vase, or mug from your cabinet, then simply stand your silverware up inside of it. The silverware can match, or be an eclectic combination of styles you enjoy.
The same can be done with cloth napkins too. Pick any container, then roll up a few cloth napkins and stick them into the container. You can also use napkins with napkin rings, and insert a sprig or two of fresh leaves, berries, or flowers in the napkin rings. Then simply stack your napkins nicely, or stand them up in the container of your choice.
If you prefer baskets or unusual looking jars, then by all means use those for the centerpiece container instead of a coffee cup or flower vase.
Another one of my favorite dining room decorating techniques is to create a unique table setting. This can be as elaborate or as simple as you'd like. You could create a formal, full setting with glasses, silverware, plates, bowls, napkins, and place-mats for instance - or you can just group a couple of attractive plates together and put a pretty napkin or flower on top of them.
Getting creative with your dining room table decor is quite simple, and once you start you'll probably find yourself coming up with many more quick and easy ideas!
