Learn how to entertain guests using scary movies as inspiration when planning food and beverage spreads for a party. The amount of technique put into how snacks or main courses are served can either compensate for little decorations around the venue or enhance any scheduled activities for horror film fans to enjoy.
"Saw III"-Inspired Barbecue Rib Coffin Entree
Fill an inflatable or homemade coffin with black jelly beans until it is half-full. Position a medium- to large-size skeleton model over the jelly beans so the legs and arms are hanging over the edges of the coffin. Attach barbecue ribs to each rib bone on the skeleton model inside the coffin using string. Build a headstone for the coffin using jumbo wooden craft sticks and a sheet of red card stock. Attach it to the head of the coffin using Velcro or heavy duty duct tape.
Use black markers or acrylic paint to label the headstone by writing a quote from the scene in "Saw III" where Jigsaw tests Kerry. Short ribs and spare ribs can be used for this scary movie party food platter depending on the number of guests and budget.
Church's "Pet Sematary" Dirt Dessert
Make three large bowls of pudding that each contain a different flavor, including milk chocolate, dark fudge, and white chocolate. Stir one of three different flavors of cookies into each pudding bowl, such as chocolate chip, chocolate mint, and chocolate sandwich varieties.
Cut a headstone shape out of cardboard for all the "Pet Sematary" characters that were buried and returned home from their graves during the movie. There should be one for main character Louis's family cat Church, his son Gage, and wife Rachel. Write their names on the headstone along with a rest in peace message and a quote from the movie using black and orange markers.
Place the cardboard headstones inside the dessert bowls near the center to give the appearance that they are buried and surrounded by dirt. Secure the position of these headstones by creating a border rim of polished stones or pebbles around them. Set some of the pebbles on top of green edible candy grass. Give shovel-shaped spoons to guests, allowing them to serve themselves during the party by filling their own smaller bowls with the dessert of their choice among the three grave sites.
Bloody "Grace" Drinks
Mix and prepare a variety of red colored cocktails and non-alcoholic beverages or one simple drink, such as cranberry juice with vodka, in advance before guests arrive. Pour the cocktails into baby bottles and place them on a table or counter surrounded by plastic toy flies. Set a bloody toy arm-like body part in front of the baby bottles.
Create a beverage menu using red crayons and attach it to the arm decoration. The menu should list the cocktails named after characters in the movie that were in danger, such as "Dr. Sohn's Cranberry and Vodka" or "Madeline's Shirley Temple" to help guests select their desired drink. For a more chilling effect, smear corn syrup or fake blood over the counter or table top where the drinks are being served and set a pair of bloody yellow cleaning gloves near this area to reflect the frantic kitchen scene in "Grace."
