Decoupage Multi-Purpose Holiday Decor Victorian Cones

Pam Parent
These beautiful Victorian cone designs can be made for everyday decorating or holiday decor. They look especially lovely on a Christmas tree or incorporated in your holiday decorating. I use these cone decorations for multiple decorating purposes. These Victorian cones look lovely hanging evenly spaced down a stairway with white lights wrapped around them. The decoupaged cones also look pretty hanging in small spaces, and at the top, center of your windows. I also use the Victorian cones to decorate packages and fill stockings. This is a great project to do with your kids.

Holiday Victorian Cones
Supplies:
  • Paper mache cone
  • Modge Podge
  • Clear glaze
  • Glue gun and glue sticks
  • Decoupage Victorian sticker
  • Small paint brush
  • Burgundy acrylic paint
  • 1/2 yard thin burgundy ribbon
  • Green dried florals
  • Burgundy, white and gold dried florals
  • Mini pine cones
  • Yarn needle
  • Sponge brush
  • Scissors

Directions:

  1. Lay the cone with the pointy end up on a covered work area. Paint the outside and rim of the cone burgundy. Let dry.
  2. Paint the back of the Victorian sticker with Modge Podge using the sponge brush. Place the sticker centered on the front of the cone. Brush a light layer Modge Podge on the front of the Victorian sticker.
  3. Carefully dab the front of the picture with a slightly damp sponge. This will help to ensure the sticker is free of air bubbles. Let dry.
  4. Paint a coat of clear varnish over the entire outside of the cone. This will help seal and secure the Victorian picture to the cone.
  5. Thread the ribbon on the yarn needle. Pierce through the top, side of the cone. When you get to the end of the ribbon, tie it into a knot. Pierce through the other side of the cone. Tie this end of the ribbon into a knot. Trim ends. This is the hanger for your Victorian cone.
  6. Glue the greenery inside the cone. Glue the highest piece at the top, center of the cone. Glue a piece of greenery at each end of the cone. The three pieces should form a triangle shape. Fill in the cone using these three pieces as a guide.
  7. Evenly glue the dried florals and pine cones throughout the arrangement.

Other Holiday Ideas

Halloween - Paint the cones black, then decoupage a Victorian-styled Halloween sticker on the front. Hang several cones across an entryway. In between each cone hang faux spider webs. Hang a couple Victorian cones in a door wreath that is embellished with black lights.

Thanksgiving - Decoupage a festive Victorian label on each cone. Use the cones as name place setting decorations for your Thanksgiving table. Write the name of the guest above or below the sticker. Give each guest their cone as a special thanks for celebrating Thanksgiving with you.

Easter - Paint the cones a pastel color. Decoupage a spring-themed Victorian sticker on the front of the cones. Instead of filling the cones with florals, fill them with wrapped candy. Give a Victorian cone to guests celebrating Easter with you at your home.

Just let your imagination go wild when designing your decoupaged Victorian cones. The holiday and everyday decorating possibilities are endless.
