Decrease Mortality Rates: Four Supplements & One Therapy

How to Improve Life Span

Christine Cadena
With advancing technology and advancing medical research, Americans are boasting longer and longer life spans but, in many cases, find health to be quickly deteriorating. Struggling to find a balance in work, family and spiritual connections, busy adults often find they do not practice healthy lifestyle choices on a regular basis. But, what if only four supplements, coupled with one therapy, could boost your life span with little effort on your part?

While medical research and technology is proving to be effective and increasing our life span, research has shown we can live much longer if we take our part in practicing healthy lifestyle choices. While you may initially think this is another recommendation for the need to get adequate exercise, avoid smoking and eat healthy, it simply is not. Instead, this is an overview of our most effective supplements on the market that, when coupled with one traditional therapy, can increase your life span; working in collaboration with medical technology and research.

Let's first look at the four supplements that are essential to increasing your life span.

Calcium
Taking just 1000 to 1500 milligrams of calcium per day can reduce your risk for high blood pressure, strengthen bones, prevent colon cancer and even improve symptoms associated with menopause and pre-menstrual syndrome in women. Calcium, or calcium citrate, can be obtained through supplements or by eating green leafy foods.

Vitamin D
To promote the absorption of calcium, it is important to obtain adequate amounts of vitamin D. But, vitamin D alone can also provide health benefits by preventing breast cancer and prostate cancer. Vitamin D can be obtained through 15 minutes of sunlight exposure each day or by taking 1000 international units (IU) in a supplement form.

Fish Oils
Omega-3 is the fish oil we are referring to in this quest to increase life span. Promoting healthy heart and brain, fish oil can also improve the deteriorating effects of mental health complications such as depression. In addition, adequate consumption of omega-3 fats may also reduce your risks for developing Alzheimer's disease. To obtain omega-3 fats, you can take one gram of fish oil supplements per day or consume two servings of fatty fish per week; salmon and tuna are just a couple of the options.

Folic Acid
At just 800 micrograms per day, folic acid can also reduce your risk for development many forms of cancer including prostate and colon cancer. Consuming high quality grains and cooked green leafy vegetables, such as spinach, can provide effective health benefits.

In addition to these four daily supplements, it is important to also practice a daily therapy to increase your life span. Light therapy is a key part of living a healthy lifestyle. Achieved by getting, at least, five minutes of unprotected sun, five days per week, you will see not only an improvement in your life expectancy but a more immediate effect in your mood and health. After five minutes of sun exposure, if you plan to remain in the sun longer, it is important to use a strong SPF sunscreen. Light therapy can not only improve mood, it will also stimulate vitamin D absorption leading to improved bone health and promote melatonin production to encourage healthy sleep. If you are unable to engage in light therapy, consider purchasing a light box and utilize a 3000 lux exposure for 30 minutes per day.

As busy, active adults struggle day to day to encourage a healthy lifestyle many find they are unable to keep up with the demands on their life while trying to focus on diet and exercise. Using these four supplements, combined with this one therapy method, you may be able to improve your life span without much effort.
