During the mid-1980s Twisted Sister was one of the bands to come under scrutiny by the Parent's Music Resource Center (PMRC) and Dee publicly announced his opposition to putting parental advisories on music, even though he had a child of his own at the time. The watchdog group (PMRC) even went so far as to try to get the album banned, and Dee fought back using the First Amendment to fight for musician's rights.
Dee hosted one of the first all-metal music video shows on MTV called Heavy Metal Mania, which first aired in the summer of 1985. On the show Dee announced selected videos and also provided heavy metal news, interviews, and other features as well.
After the collapse of Twisted Sister Dee went on to form a band called Desperado, which never officially released a full length album, and the heavier group Widowmaker. After that group disbanded Dee tried his hand with some involvement in a few horror films, such as StrangeLand, which also co-starred Nightmare on Elm Street's Robert Englund, and was even played a cameo role in Pee-Wee's Big Adventure and Howard Stern's Private Parts. He was also featured on several television shows, such as Drew Carey, and makes frequent appearances on the Howard Stern radio show. He performed on and off in the 90s with an outfit called the SMFs, performed solo efforts, and also performed with Twisted Sister again in more recent years. Dee Snider has hosted a syndicated radio show, House of Hair, which was dedicated to 1980s glam, also known as "hair band," rock.
Answers.com reports "Every year since 2004, Dee has narrated a live show known as Van Helsing's Curse which tours the US around Halloween giving a mix of famous music with dark overtones and an occasional part of a storytelling to accompany the music. The concert has also been released on CD." He actively campaigned for Schwarzenegger during his bid for Governor of California. Currently Dee is still hosting a radio show and is very active in the music and entertainment industry.
He has been involved with book-writing, has appeared on many shows, including MTV's Cribs, and has been interviewed many times for many different occasions, including for a Star Wars trilogy 30th anniversary set where he explained his appreciation for the original Star Wars trilogy. Very recently he appeared on CMT's (Country Music Television's) Gone Country.
Fun facts:
Dee has been married to Suzette Snider since 1981 and has three sons (Jesse, Shane, and Cody) and one daughter (Cheyenne).
His oldest son Jesse "Blaze" Snider grew up with a heavy musical influence and is also the lead singer of the rock band Baptized By Fire(BXF).
He has done voiceovers for Pizza Hut, New York State Lotto, and MSNBC.
In 2006 Twisted Sister became the first metal band to release a Christmas album.
