Deep Dark

Sandra Essary
Deep black,
Void of light,
Darker than
The darkest night.

I search for just a glimpse,
A mere pinhole of light -
My eyes have not yet forgot
The beauty of that sight.

My hands feel their way
Along cold damp walls;
Swirling questions abound -
Yet "light lives here no more"
Is the only answer found.

Deep dark consumes me,
Dare I trust in hope -
Or submit to fate?
In silent dark all I can do
Is sit quietly and wait
For death or rescue.

I thought of the trapped miners when I read this. What a joy to know they have been rescued and all are alive!

Sounds a lot like what the miners went through in Chile. Very graphic imagery of what it must be like to be buried alive.

Yikes! These desperate thoughts must run through the minds of those who are trapped like Fortunato in Poe's "Cask of Amontillado."
