Rock this place to the ground
Burn it up let's go for broke
Watch the night go up in smoke
Rock on! Rock on!
Drive me crazier, no serenade
No fire brigade, just-a pyromania"
Come on, you know you want to grab something resembling a microphone and sing along! Def Leppard's Pyromania blasted through the speakers of the 1980s on a continuous loop. It is a definite must for any Eighties Rock collection.
Pyromania brought Def Leppard to the forefront of Eighties Rock. It was their third studio album and sold over 10 million copies in the United States alone. Def Leppard was also very popular in Japan. Three top 40 singles emerged from this album; "Photograph", "Foolin' " and "Rock of Ages." Thanks in part to the brand new MTV, 24-hour music channel. Yes! In 1983 MTV WAS 24-hour music!
One reason for Def Leppard's huge success was that they managed to appeal to both sexes. Joe Elliot's smokin' on stage presence, long hair and killer vocals left the eighties ladies screaming for more of this British hottie. Millions of teenage girls around the world dreamed of being the girl that caused Mr. Elliot to wail out in desperation, "I want to touch you!" Seriously what girl didn't want to be the one in the photograph? His band mates, Phil Collen and Steve Clarke provided eye-candy and power chords that made air guitars appear out of thin air. And the guys...they could not resist whipping out the air drums whenever Rock of Ages hit the airwaves. Rick Allen really rocked it out.
