Defeated Victory

Evan Carrier
Why do we do what we do?

Is it for fame, love, money?

Or is it just to get someone's attention

When they don't seem to be paying a thing.

Choices that seem to make sense at the time

Only end up as a lifetime of pain and regret;

They haunt our worn and weary souls

Every single day of our lives and

Possibly there after.

Can't you hear me now?

Trying to bring you back to

What life was once before.

Am I getting through to you?

Past the temptations, the pressures,

The doubts dwelling in your corrupted mind.

Can't you see this now?

That your life means more to me

Than the price you willingly pay to

Give it away.

My hopes, my dreams,

Everything I ever wanted to happen

Is crushed against the wall of

Self-doubt and the fear of the unknown.

Why does something so careless, so ill-thought,

Bring you so much joy and excitement while

Slowly killing you, and myself, deep down inside?

Why do my attempts to save you,

To prevent your inevitable destruction,

Always end up destroying me along the way?

My actions might not end up being in vain

If only a level of understanding and development

Can be reached from among the remains of

A friendship that had once existed.
