"Defending the Caveman" at the Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas is, in a nutshell, great!

Starring Kevin Burke and written by Rob Becker, it's billed as a comedy about men and women. And that's exactly what it is-with a twist. It's a solo play that started on Broadway and grew to showing in over 30 countries and translated into over 15 languages.

My husband and I both enjoyed it, both watching it as a couple and as individuals. The setting is done is caveman décor in a small, intimate theatre.

The play was written over a three year informal study of anthropology, sociology, psychology and mythology. Kevin Burkes tells the story of the differences between man and woman, how they relate and where each side is coming from in an hour and twenty minutes.

Men are hunters. They have but one goal in mind. They have to block out everything around them and hone in on their kill to bring back to the cave and feed his family. That's the job and they can't do more than the one job. Multitasking is not what they are meant to do.

Women are gatherers. They watch, listen, notice their surroundings to see wear the kids are, where the food they are gathering is at its best, they cook and clean the cave. They have to multitask or nothing will be accomplished.

The audience, made up mostly of couples, were laughing and nudging one another in recognition of what the solo performer was relating in his stories that included what he and his wife were like.

The night before we had seen the Gordie Brown Show at the Venetian. We were told we'd laugh ourselves silly and talk about him for hours. We didn't.

On the flip side, after watching "Defending the Caveman"-we not only laughed and enjoyed ourselves, we were wishing the play hadn't ended so soon. We giggled over some of the related events and how they applied to us. Believe it or not, it opened our eyes as to where the other was coming from for the first time in almost 27 years of marriage.

The next morning we were talking to a couple seated close to us at breakfast and recommended the show highly. Upon getting back to reality, we told our family members they had to go see the performance on their next visit.
