Defining a Madness;

Brendan W Vittum
Defining a Madness;

Madness.
It is not - as he once thought -
that Voltairian concept
of an unending rush of
successive thought.

Not the same's definition;
considering a thought
completely, solely;
obsessively.

Even that oft-echoed insanity
of repeating action expecting
differing results
to no avail
is not Madness.

No. No great calamity
of mind, no travesty
of society is Madness.

Far too simple, Madness
defined is no more then reading
the letters of Hearts past, feeling
that same quickening of blood,
tightening of the chest, Now
as it was Then.

Madness is knowing that as long
as your eyes stay shut, Now
ceases to exist.

Then
is Now
Then.
