Definition of Religious Terms

Define these terms in your own words.

1. Immanent - To believe that God is everywhere or within and can be spoken too because God is always present.
2. Religion - Religion is a life style and belief that is divers in many different ways and is practiced by individuals and groups of people that focus on praying to a God or multiple Gods.
3. Theistic - Individuals who believe there is more than one deity or God.
4. Monotheistic - Monotheistic is the opposite of Theistic and is the belief that only one God or deity exists.
5. Profane - Anything that is negative, such as words and actions.
6. Polytheistic - Any religion that believes in multiple deities or Gods.
7. Monistic - A theory that states everything, Earth, humans, animals even God is one and nothing is broken into categories.
8. Dogma - The beliefs of a religion or writings to be true without actual proof.
9. Nontheistic - A religious mind-set.
10. Transcendent - A God or religion that is beyond any individual's explanation.
11. Incarnations - Incarnations are the birth of a human or in flesh.
12. Kensho - Japanese believe it is a way of enlightenment.
13. Atheism - The belief that there is no supreme being or God.
14. Agnosticism - The belief that anything that cannot be seen or is mystical such as God or deities is uncertain. Only material items are absolute and known to exist
15. Rituals - A gathering of individuals or a single person who participates in an offering of some sort in regards to their religious beliefs.
16. Symbols - Symbols are objects such that can be in material form, such as objects and pictures, or drawings, all in which represent something.
17. Myths - Story's that are written down and told to educate individuals on a particular topic. Myths are nether falsehoods nor truths, just stories.
18. Orthodox - The acceptance of something such as religious beliefs due to the facts others believe it.
19. Routinization of charisma - Oppresses religion by scaring people into following the religion rather than teaching in such a way individuals will want to participate due to spiritual reasons or happiness.
20. Absolutists - People who believe an act or words to be absolute and nothing will change their belief.
21. Charisma - The ability in humans to present an attractive appearance or way with words that above other humans.
22. Fundamentalism - An individual or group of individuals that take their religious beliefs to the extreme but yet believe their religious behavior is normal.
23. Phenomenology - Is the study of anything in an individual's conscious state of mind such as the world or religion.
24. Liberal - A person who politician who is very open minded to others ideas or religious beliefs.
25. Mysticism - A method used such as meditation in order to communicate with God or a deity of a higher power.
26. Heretic - An individual who basis their religious beliefs on facts versus unproven documentation.
27. Sacred - An object that is holy in nature and may contain special powers.
28. Soul - A soul in religious belief is what makes humans what we are and is hosted by our bodies or outer shell.
