Deforestation for Profit
While we view horrifying pictures on television and the internet showing the demolition of forest lands we rarely ask the questions about who is responsible for this. Quite often it is more from helplessness at the magnitude of the task facing us in attempting to put a stop to it that prevents us from taking action, than from a lack of concern. Do not forget however that, big things sometimes have small beginnings.
Unfortunate but true is the reality that deforestation is a means of livelihood for people. The wealth of resources found there, make them an ideal source of revenue. Even the wood used for the furniture we have in our homes for instance, probably came from these forest areas. How?
Well established furniture companies of long standing have for many years been responsible for cutting down some of the largest forests of the earth right under our very noses. They are doing this by legal methods, surprisingly, and the question to ask is how they are able to obtain the permits for such activity.
Another matter of grave concern is that the very people who are in positions where they should be the primary custodians of the planet are those that permit these atrocities. We ourselves face the frustration of knowing that we are voiceless in a situation which is escalating towards even graver consequences. However, all cannot be said to be lost.
We should all rally round to unite in opposing the activities of these monsters by upholding the green movement, and stopping them from making profits on our forests. Let us remember that the earth is not only in the care of such people but we too are common caretakers.
The Reversal of Deforestation
The process of reversing such program, stopping deforestation and rebuilding damaged land is a very difficult thing to achieve. In effect one has to have the muscle to take control of the field. Nevertheless if we are willing to contribute a large level of support to organizations and movements that are fighting this cause, we could join hand with nature to effect its restoration.
If we can catch the vision that even the smallest contribution of an individual goes to paint the broader picture and our labor may not be in vain when it all comes together to support the restoration of this earth, we will do well.
