The early development of Paula Patton brings us to Los Angeles where she was raised by her mother (a teacher) and father (a lawyer). The allure and appeal of Hollywood entertainment surrounded her during her formative years and upon graduating from Hamilton Magnet Arts High School, located in Los Angeles, she went to pursue her interests in film.
The advertisements for Déjà Vu seem to portray Paula Patton as a newbie to the entertainment world, but she actually holds a few acting, as well as producing credits under her belt. The 30-year-old actress started out as a 1997 graduate of the University of Southern California, where she majored in critical film studies. Following graduation, she became an assistant to well-known comedian, Howie Mandel. As she worked on the set of Mandel's talk show, she took advantage of the chance to mingle with some of his famous guests (in between retrieving cups of coffee).
Patton walked away from life as an assistant and began producing after landing an entry-level job with the Discovery Health channel. In 2000, she was working on "Medical Diaries." In a couple of years, she was producing segments. In two years, she was producing segments. After the show was axed, at age 27, Patton decided to take acting lessons.
Her first acting role came with the 2005 television movie, "Murder Book," where she played a detective. While being represented by a management company associated with Will Smith, she accepted a bit part in the 2005 movie, "Hitch." It wasn't too long until she was added to the cast of the 2006 musical, "Idlewild." Her role on "Déjà Vu" soon followed and the rest of the chapters in her life are soon to be written.
Private Life
On the homefront, Patton is surrounded by musical and other entertainment influences. In June 2005, she married the soulful singer, Robin Thicke, who has seen recent commercial success on music channels, such as MTV and BET. She is also the daughter-in-law of Alan Thicke, who is best known for his role as the Mr. Seaver from "Growing Pains" fame. She's also done a bit of modeling in a sense when she appeared on the cover of her husband's first album titled, "A Beautiful World."
For Patton, all of her hard work and path to self-discovery has worked in her favor. Recently, Patton received an award for being the best breakout at the 14th Annual Diversity Awards in Los Angeles. While there are no upcoming Patton projects at this time to report on, she has expressed several times her interest in settling into a career filming documentaries or directing movies. Who knows where we will see Miss Patton next?
