Today Detective Brett Hopper, played by Taye Diggs, will be accused of shooting state attorney Alberto Garza. Tomorrow Detective Brett Hopper will be accused of shooting state attorney Alberto Garza...again. No, that was stupid, I wish I could relive this day and...
Denzel Washington is an ATF agent that travels back in time to save a woman from being murdered and who knows, maybe he'll see Taye Diggs while he's there. Ugh! Dumb. Dumb. Dumb. I wish I could relive this day...
Taye Diggs stars in the TV show Day Vu and Denzel Washington stars in the movie Deja Break. Ah crap. I wish there was some way that I could go back and relive this day...
If you liked the movie Groundhog Day then you'll be very happy to hear that there is a new movie and a new TV show with the same premise. The main character keeps reliving the same day over again. But instead of the comedy gold of Bill Murray we get the tremendous acting of Denzel Washington and the...passable Taye Diggs.
In Déjà vu Denzel Washington is an ATF agent who travels back in time to save a woman from being murdered. In Day Break Taye Diggs is Detective Brett Hopper who is accused of shooting state attorney Alberto Garza so he relives the day trying to prove he didn't. It's pretty common that two movies of the same genre come out around the same time. Just take a look at the Prestige and the Illusionist or pretty much any time an animated movie comes out. But it's pretty strange that a movie and TV show that are so much alike are out at the same time. It's almost like Déjà Vu should've been renamed "Day Break Cliff Notes". Déjà vu is probably going to sum up in two hours what happens in Day Break over the entire season. They should do this with all TV shows. Can't wait an entire season to see all the twists on Lost? Well then go see the new movie Hidden! Can't wait to see if Lorelai will end up with Christopher or Luke? Well then go see the movie Galmore Gals!
But which one should you see? In all honesty I'm interested in seeing both just because I like movies with twists and this type of movie (and TV show) has to have twists doesn't it? I like Denzel Washington and Taye Diggs is fine but the guys I'm really look forward to are Val Kilmer in Déjà vu and Adam Baldwin in Day Break. It brings up the age old question: Who would win in a fight between Madmartigan from Willow and Jayne from Firefly (of course I could've gone with Doc Holliday from Tombstone but not even Jayne would have a shot)? That's not an age old question you say? Well I just asked it; therefore it has aged and gotten old, so there you go.
ANYWAY, I'll tell you why you should see Day Break over Déjà vu. Déjà vu might very well be a good movie but Day Break has the potential to be the best TV show ever! Just think about it we've all had a favorite TV show that had some story or scene that just made us cringe. It just was an awful idea and ruined the show. Take Cousin Oliver from Brady Bunch as an example. Don't you wish that they would've realized Cousin Oliver stunk and taken him off the show after one episode? Well in Day Break they can! If there is a bad scene or story or whatever then in the next episode when Taye Diggs relives the day he can do something different so that the bad part doesn't happen! Every week they get to do the same episode over again and make it better. It might not be the best show on the first episode but it will be the best show on the last episode!
So if you can only see one go-back-in-time-to-relive-the-day-and-save-the-girl-movie-or-tv-show then you should watch Day Break. But if you have the time, go see Déjà vu too. Speaking of Déjà vu I feel like I've written this article before. Hmm...

Post a CommentWait, I think I've read this somewhere before... ;-)
Didn't Adam Sandler do one of these too? I like the concept actually. Keep reliving it until you get it right. I like second chances. :)
Hmmmm... Madmartigan vs. Jayne... Tough because I think they're both street-smart characters who might go a little crazy in a fight. Jayne does have all those nifty guns though... So I think you're right. Jayne wins.
I feel Adam Baldwin should be featured more in the ads for Daybreak. I think I see him getting punched very briefly. Get with it, ABC! The man has a devoted cult following!
