Eating Delfa Rolls was fun. You could either peel off strips and chew on them or just pop the entire roll in your mouth and suck on it until it was gone. These Delfa Roll candies sold out pretty quickly because eating them is kind of addictive (I talked about this a little in my other article on nostalgic candies). I don't know why, it just is. You're sad when all of your rolls are gone. It's nothing like eating some of the standard candies out now, like Skittles or Twizzlers.
So imagine my dismay when I learned that they stopped making Delfa Rolls! Why? I mean this candy was good enough to buy in bulk. Whenever I let my grown friends have one roll of Delfa Rolls before they disappeared from stores (and when I say one, I mean one-get your own dude, get your own) they fell in love with them too.
But thanks to a web visitor that posted a comment on my previous article on nostalgic candy, I learned that Delfa Rolls are now called Broadway Rolls. When I went online and looked them up, I almost jumped out of my chair in excitement.
I have to say though, I'm still a little skeptical about whether or not these are the same candies as my beloved Delfa Rolls. Sometimes they try to create copycat products and fail miserably. You've got to stick with the exact, original formula or it's just not worth it. These Broadway Rolls look like the real deal but the verdict on the taste is still out. I read a few reviews online that said these don't taste like the originals. I think I'll buy an individual pack or two online first, test it out for myself, then buy in bulk if it's right.
So if you loved Delfa Rolls in your youth like I did, now you know: Delfa Rolls are now Broadway Rolls (or at least that's what they say). I haven't tried them personally yet, but if you do please post your review under comments (I will do so as well).

Post a CommentSame with me. I picked up one at my local vintage candy shop, Rocket Fizz, and they are not the same. The consistency is wrong and if I remember correctly the ones I used to get were cherry, not strawberry (this was almost 2 decades ago, though.) Not impressed.
They are NOT the same and I was so mad when I snagged up about 8 rolls at World Market.
About 6 yrs ago, the local candy distributor in MI told me that they had discontinued importing tot the US.
With Canada only 14 miles away, I tried that route, and no go... :(
Say NO to Broadway!
I too was very disappointed when these went off the market. My daughter just came across these at a local store and remembered me talking about how I loved this strawberry roll when I was younger. She bought me some and although they are good, they are not the same taste. I wish the manufacturer could buy the exact recipe for the original. I believe they would have a "gold mine". I know I would be buying in bulk!

The 'Broadway' version of the original delfa roll is a mere shell of the real one we remember. The original was a deep red color and usually hard to sink your teeth into - kind of like a dog gnawing on a bone. The 'Broadway' product is a pale red color, a bit sweeter, and easier to chew. But it is not the genuine 'Delfa' roll by any stretch....
Unfortunately, these do not have the same taste. I have loved this licorice as a child and was practically bouncing off of the walls when I found these again. However, I was extremely disappointed when I received my order. These taste nothing like the Broadway Licorice rolls / Delfa Rolls / Danish Ribbons of my youth. Don't waste your money on these!
