Friendly faces, southern hospitality, delicious, southern foods and fine wines are all synonymous with the North Carolina region. Whether you prefer a full bodied red wine or an ice cold Merlot, you're sure to find it here in the North Carolina area. Visitors travel from thousands of miles to sample what North Carolina residents enjoy year round. The beautiful scenery, friendly people and some of the best food and wine found anywhere on earth. From the mountains to the seashore you'll find a wine experience in North Carolina that will keep you aching for more and bringing you back year after year. North Carolina is notorious for growing wonderfully, delicious grapes that are used to create award winning wines which are then distributed all over the world. In fact, by the turn of the 20th century North Carolina was the leading wine producing region in the whole nation. Even during the long dry years of prohibition North Carolina wine makers distributed their wines in Mason jars. Not being ones to give up something they loved, N.C. winemakers began running their out of the way, hidden distilleries and producing moonshine by the gallons for residents and visitors who just had to have their wine.

Today, North Carolina is home to more than 80 wineries which produce thousands of gallons of chardonnays, Merlots and Muscatine every year. All along the coastal regions of north Carolina you'll find fields of muscadines that are used to make north Carolina muscadine wine. Many of the wineries are known to sell their grape skins to pharmaceutical companies which use them when making many different types of medications. There are also many great wine tasting events and festivals held every year in the North Carolina region including the Whale Club wine festival that is held every year on September 2nd from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. Admission for this event is only $20.00 per person. Come out to the Whale Club and help the residents celebrate the interesting world of North Carolina wines. All wine connoisseurs and novices are welcome and encouraged to visit and become more familiar with the world of distinct wines. Enjoy this Wednesday afternoon wine tasting under the tents on the lawn of the Whale Club. Your $20.00 admission fee includes the opportunity to sample some of the best wines North Carolina has to offer. After your wine tasting session, you'll also be able to enjoy a leisurely tour of the Whale Club grounds while listening to music from some of the hottest bands. And you will also have an opportunity to sample foods from some of the local vendors. But don't be fooled, most everyone who visits comes to sample the delicious ice cold bottles of merlot and chardonnay that are offered. Pets of course are always welcome. Another wonderful North Carolina wine tasting festival would be the Jazzy Fridays Nights at the Winery which is on Friday night September 4th in Wagram N.C. This event begins at 7 p.m. and lasts until 10 p.m. This is an opportunity for residents and tourists alike to sample the best North Carolina wines, while enjoying some of the local music and beautiful scenery that North Carolina has to offer.

Another event you really shouldn't miss is the Wine Down In The Country Nights beginning on august 28th to November 7th, in Elizabeth City, N.C. Admission for this event is just $10.00 per person and also includes a souvenir glass. This event is brought to you by the Weeksville Vineyards and Cellars and is presented to you in a restored 1930's era farmhouse where you will enjoy tasting the wines of times past. You will be transported back in time by the rustic old time charm of these wine tasting rooms and vineyards. Moonrise Bay vineyards is another popular wine producing facility in the North Carolina region. It is located at Knott's Island N.C. where they produce some of the best wines with pride and passion. And Glen Marie Vineyards and winery which is located in Burlington, N.C., this vineyard makes some of the best muscadine, sweet Marie and cabernet sauvignons to be found anywhere else in this region.
