On the Flex Points plan, each food is assigned a point value. The point value is determined by a secret calculation of total calories, grams of fat and grams of dietary fiber in each serving. Weight Watchers makes their own brand of snacks which are sold in supermarkets. However, the prices are extremely high for these treats. A box of two- bite cakes costs between $3.49 and $3.99 for a box of 6. These cakes are 1 point each.
Weight Watchers also produces their own line of bread. You can purchase one point English muffins, two point sandwich rolls or a loaf of bread which is one point for each slice. I have tried all of these products and they taste pretty good. The difference is in how much fiber is baked into the bread. The more fiber baked in the bread, the lower the point value.
Many types of beverages are valued at only one point. For a change, try a half a cup of pineapple juice, apple cider or cranberry juice cocktail. A six ounce serving of fat free or sugar free hot cocoa is one point, as well as four ounces or a small cup of light, low alcohol or non-alcoholic wine.
You can substitute many types of breads for the Weight Watchers brand bread. One Merita brand wheat roll, one small pita or ½ of a large pita and one Sara Lee Mini bagel are all only one point. If you are really hungry, try four slices of Wonder Light Bread, Light Oroweat Wheat or Light Oroweat Country Potato bread. All are equal to only one point per serving.
Fruits are always a great choice while dieting. One half cup of dried apples, one cup of gooseberries or one fresh guava are only one point each. Other fresh fruit serving include one cup fresh or frozen strawberries, one cup orange sections and one cup of fresh papaya.
For protein sources, one slice of crisp bacon equals one point, as well as one quarter cup of fat free egg substitute, three egg whites, one slice of lean luncheon or deli meat or one serving of a one ounce vegetarian breakfast patty.
If it's three o'clock in the afternoon and you need a sweet snack, there are numerous options for a one point goodie. One Archway Fat Free Devil's Food Cookie, two tablespoons of marshmallow Fluff or three reduced fat vanilla wafers are all one point each. For frozen treats, try one Haagen Daz fat free Chocolate Sorbet bar or one Dairy Queen sugarless, fat free orange & vanilla or fudge bar.
As you can see, it's fairly easy to find foods which can help you stay on the Weight Watchers flex point plan. One point foods are a lifesaver.
