Delicious Orange Peel Dessert Recipe

When I first moved to California, I noticed there were a lot of orange trees in people's backyards. Oranges have always been one of my favorite fruits to eat and growing up with my grandma living close by, I would always be around great foods and desserts that she would make for her grandkids to eat. My grandma is a great cook, and has many recipes she has kept in a box for years. She's never really shared her recipes with many people, but fortunately for me, last time I was visiting her, I was able to watch her as she made this incredible orange peel dessert, which is one of my favorite desserts that she makes.

To make this recipe, we can use these oranges found here in California. They are navel oranges, and they are incredibly tasty and have a thick peel that can be used to make this delicious treat.

I would like to share this delicious recipe of this orange peel dessert. It takes a couple of days to be ready, but every time I make this treat, people seem to really enjoy it. Just to clarify, when making this sweet, we only use the white part of the peel of the orange.

The Recipe:

Take 6 navel oranges and peel them thinly.
Cut each orange in 4 pieces.
Take out the edible part of the orange and keep the white peel.
Put them in a pan and boil these white peel for 5 minutes.
Turn off the heat and let them cool for while
After cooled, throw away this water and move the peel into a separate bowl adding new fresh water.
Change the water four times a day during a period of 2 days.
The sour of the white peel will be gone after 2 days of changing water.
After 2 days, put the white peel in a pan to boil once again with four cups of water.
When it is boiling, add a half pound of white sugar, a piece of cinnamon or cloves, and let it boil for 20 minutes or until the water and sugar become thick.

At this point, wait for it to cool down and once it is cool enough, put the whole thing in the refrigerator in a nice serving bowl making it a beautiful compote.

Tips on how to serve this dessert:

This dessert can be served with a table spoon of plain or flavored yogurt, table cream or as they originally eat it in Brazil, with a slice of white cheese.
It is better to served cold.

Enjoy.
