Delicious and Simple

The tastes of the south are usually drenched in butter and flour, but here are a few recipes that are actually not loaded with cholesterol and fat.

Watermelon: Take one whole watermelon and cut in half, length-wise. Cut each half section in half again length-wise. Now cut pieces horizontally in about one to two inch slices. Sprinkle with a little bit of salt and enjoy. You may want to go outside on the porch to devour this treat because it can get quite messy. But that is the fun part right?

Now, I know some of you would rather go and buy a tub of whipped cream ready to go, but please humor me for a moment and find out exactly how easy and tasty it is to make your own whipped cream.

Strawberries and Cream: Obtain a tub of strawberries, about a pound, wash and remove the green leaves from the top. Leave them whole so you can handle them better. In a medium mixing bowl, pour a pint container of heavy whipping cream which you can find next to the milk at the grocery store. Add about a 1/2 tsp. of vanilla and about 1/2 cup of sugar to the cream. Use an electric mixer to mix all the ingredients together. This will take about five to six minutes. You will notice the mixture going from very liquid to quite thick in that time. When you see ripples in the mixture from you mixer, it is done. Take a nice, red strawberry and dip it into the whipped cream and enjoy. You can also put a dollop in the bottom of a bowl and add sliced strawberries to the cream.

I hope you enjoy these tastes from my childhood and don't be afraid to share with each other.
