Having a Paper Route Can Greatly Benefit You While Unemployed

The loss of a job can leave an individual and their family stressed out, under financed, and searching for solutions to everyday needs. Delivering news publications is a great job to supplement your income, and keep you on the right track while attempting to land a new position.

Getting up and going to work is an act many are familiar with, but enjoyed by few. After losing a job, the motivation to get up early in the day and keep yourself busy may be difficult to muster. A break from the routine is a welcomed sigh of relief for many individuals who find themselves unemployed. This is normal, however, it is essential to not allow your break from employment to turn into an ignorance of responsibility. Sleeping in a little later, completing unfinished projects around the house, and catching up on missed events may grab your attention, and this is fine. The important concept is to not let these attractions overshadow the issue at hand, which is finding employment and providing for yourself and your family.

One industry that is always looking for new help is your local news publication distributor. Every morning newspapers hit the driveway and find their way into the mailboxes of countless residents nationwide. More often than not, this is a seven day per week job which will begin in the middle of the night, usually around three to four AM. The great thing about this is that each day you will be awake, working, and up to speed on current events. There is no better way to capitalize on the classifieds section of your local paper than being one of the first to read it, and you will have the unique position of being able to feast your eyes on the new job openings before the vast majority of people are even awake.

Becoming a news publication delivery person is usually an easy position to land. The seven day a week schedule, along with beginning in the wee hours of the morning is not for everyone, and is difficult for many people to maintain. Beforehand, sit down and compose a schedule for yourself so that you ensure you have plenty of rest, can keep up with the seven day schedule, and do not wind up sleeping in after your deliveries are completed. After all, you have the classifieds section in your hands before anyone else, put this advantage to use! At the same time, be sure to allow time in the schedule to handle your household and family responsibilities. Make sure you have enough time to begin your daily route fresh and fully awake so that you can perform your duties well, and stay alert behind the wheel in the early morning hours.

Do not become discouraged by the time frame your deliveries must be made in. A traditional paper route will not occupy more than two to three hours of your time each morning, and by the time you are finished the sun will be rising and you will have a head start on your daily activities. After your route is finished, you can put the classifieds section to use, and contact potential employers concerning their ads. They will definitely be impressed with how soon they received a response from their advertisement.

Once you have found traditional employment, you may find that the newspaper route is too much, or simply will not fit into your schedule. Do the right thing and give your distributor proper notice that you will no longer be able to operate your route. That would be the least you could do for the company that helped you stay focused while unemployed, and gave you a competitive edge in your job search. You may find that you enjoy delivering the publications, and that the pay is acceptable for the couple of hours it requires each day. After bouncing back from being unemployed, a supplemental income may be the extra boost you need financially.

  • Delivering papers give you early access to the classifieds section of the daily news.
  • Getting up early will help you stay motivated while unemployed.
  • Delivering newspapers will provide a stream of income for your household while you are between jobs.
