The Dell Inspiron 6000 is one of my favorite laptops. Dell makes a good computer, and that's about it, but what makes this so highly unique is it's ability to hold a battery charge for up to 6 hours. It is completely outstanding, seeing it has a 128 MB integrated video card, and run on 512 MB of RAM. Only a 1.6 GHZ processor chip backs all of the entertainment features, but it is enough to allow any natural gamer or person who enjoys entertainment to have a good time.
I really like the design the 6000 offers, and even at a little over 7 pounds, it still feels quite light for some reason. It measures around 1.5 inches thick which is not that big, but the hardware makes it a little more heavier then the average system. I like the keyboard on the laptop too, as it is very comfortable to use. It seems like it is kind of small, but it really suits anyone's hands fairly well. The speakers that are integrated on the 6000 were quite loud, and better than most laptop speakers, so the entertainment features are above average for the normal user.
The Display is very nice at 15.4 inches widescreen using a Native Resolution of 1280 x 800, and at 128 MB the video graphics are pretty strong. The card is only integrated which isn't that bad, just it is attached to the motherboard, and many cards are seperate, that use there own video ram, and speed to run it at. Watching DVD's or playing minor games are not a problem. Trying Doom 3 on this type of machine won't give you much luck, so I wouldn't advice anyone to play that on this. Again the sound was a great feature on the 6000. Probably the best speakers a laptop can offer. There was absolutely no distortion, and the bass sounds very good.
Connectivity is no issue on the Inspiron 6000, as this machine holds any ports the average user would need. Normally a laptop holds two USB ports, but with the more powerful Desktop Replacement Laptops, they use four ports. The 6000 feature a VGA out to connect to a monitor, a four pin Firewire port, and one PCI Card slot for your basic wireless card or any other PCI featured card. Ethernet capabilities are no problem as the 6000 features a port for that, and a 56 K modem port. Mic and Headphone jacks are installed on the sides, which allow you too talk on the computer, or listen to your music through headphones. The entertainment is what brings this computer to life mainly.
Dell Support wouldn't really be highly recommended, so if the support improved at least a little, there would be great things for any Dell computer. I have called many times and have had many problems with there support, whether it be ask for a product number, or whatever. They just aren't fast, and they don't know what they are talking about most of the time. Dell probably ranks at the bottom for support, so a low rating would bring the overall rating down.
Overall the Dell Inspiron 6000 is an above average machine for the average gamer looking to play his or her's average games. Playing music and watching DVD's are a piece of cake, so with the 6 hour battery life, this machine would suit most people. I give it a 7.5 out of 10.

dell sucks, dont buy. bought 2 inspiron 1200 for business they both turned dead slow after a year. Upgraded the ram and still no improvement. It takes 10 minutes to boot these things up!
Intermittent problems with reading DVDs... slow to boot up and slow to run. Seriously slow! I've seen computers with a processor half that speed that run faster than the Insipid-tron 6000. Also the battery died awhile ago so it's stuck on a power-supply leash which defeats the main reason people have laptops in the first place. Do yourself a favor. Don't get a Dell.
Worst laptop -- trouble all the time. Bad battery, bad drive, cracked keyboard area. Just a piece of junk! Will never buy another Dell!
i have a 22months old inspiron 6000 and suddenly when i plug in my ac adapter for charging the battery while the unit is still on..the laptop shutdowns and after that i'm unable to power on the laptop again.Suspect motherboard is gone and my laptop is beyond warranty. Why is these kind of problem happening in not even 2 years laptop? Is it Dell using a low cost motherboard in their laptops? The dealer where i bought my laptop simply ask me to buy a new one.I'm really dissapointed with Dell's product Quality.
Dells are the worst computers. I work for affinity computers, and my boss fixes and upgrades computers, he tells me dells are the worst computers. I own a inspiron 6000 and it is all plastic! the keys fall out easily, the monitor frame cracks easiy, it is the last dell i will ever buy. It also seems to malfunction sometimes.
My laptop has been serving me well for around 2 years, it is been in the auto shop, knocked around in my back pack and I even dropped it a few times when it was on my lap. Now the HD Failed and I didnt think HD will die so fast, I do believe the Dell has been slipping a little on quality components and is losing edge. Hence why they sell them much cheaper price now. But I do think the user has a lot to do with it too!
good laptop....horrible support.
The hard drive on my Inspiron 6000 just died, and I lost a lot of information. Lots of things were not backed up--my bad--but I just didn't think my "wonderful" Dell hard drive was going to go so fast. Very disappointing. Sounds like maybe the hard drive on this model is defective?
I'm an owner of a Dell Inspiron 6000 who also is now needing to replace a bad hard drive. I would also agree that this is one very slow on booting up. Guess I'll replace the HD and hope it holds out for awhile longer.
