Halloween is a time of great fun and there are usually lots of local events to participate in. Below you will find a list I have compiled of Delmarva local Halloween haunted houses/hayrides for the 2011 Halloween Season.

Nightmares Haunted House

Delmar, DE

Nightmare's Haunted House in Delmar, Delaware has been scaring the people of the Eastern Shore for over 11 years! We are the longest, multi-level haunt on the Eastern Shore featuring the one and only BUTCHER!

Fridays and Saturdays in October, 7:30-11 p.m. Route 13 North, 7 miles north of the Delaware-Maryland state line.

Cost is $13, however, if you bring a non-perishable food item it is $2.00 off (limit 1 discount, per person, per can). Not suggested for children under age 7.

Proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society, Boys and Girls Clubs of Western Sussex, and the Delmar Fire Department. Food items will help Cat Country's "Feed A Friend" Food Drive.

Cemetery House

Laurel Fire Department

Laurel, DE

The Cemetery House is wickedly scary featuring ghouls, zombies, the undead and creatures galore. Entertainment while you wait to enter the haunted corn maze. Once through the maze you will enter the underground tombs then the house or the house then the tombs. You will have to see for yourself this year!

Fridays and Saturday nights the last three weekends of October, 7-11 p.m. Park next to the firehouse on 10th street and ride the free farm wagon to the haunted house, located at Sharptown and Hastings roads, next to the Odd Fellows Cemetery.

Cost is $8 or $7 with a perishable food item; under age 6, free.

Haunted Forest Hayride

Park at the fire hall

Parsonsburg, MD

Parsonsburg Vol. Fire Dept. Annual haunted hayride. Listen as the guides tell you stories about the haunted forest and then be prepared to be scared out of your mind as the tractor takes you back through the woods where nightmares become REALITY!

Begins at dark/7 p.m. at the Parsonsburg Vol. Fire department on Old Ocean City Road.

Cost is $7, children age 4 and under, $3. Group discounts available.

Night of the Living Zoo

Salisbury Zoo

Take a spooky hike through the zoo that will entertain and educate visitors about the zoo's creepy, crawly nocturnal inhabitants. The Zoo provides a safe, family-oriented Halloween experience for the community. Those who attend Night of the Living Zoo are educated and entertained… tricked and treated… thrilled and chilled during the event. Special performances are sure to captivate Zoo visitors.

Friday, Oct. 7 and Saturday, Oct. 8, 6-9 p.m. Tickets on sale at the zoo gift shop open daily from 10am until 3:30pm.

Cost of tickets in advance are children, $6; adults, $8, at the gate are children, $8; adults, $10.

Frightland

Port Penn Road

You can't miss Frightland and its giant skull at 309 Port Penn Road, just south of the Chesapeake & Delaware Canal off U.S. 13. Eight creepy attractions - including the Barn of Horror, The Attic and the Haunted Hayride.

Open most Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through Nov. 6. Attractions open at 6:30 p.m.

There are two separate ticket packages for $20, or you can visit all of the attractions for $30.

Halloween Hayride

Bellevue State Park

Willmington, DE

Halloween Hayride Wear your costume, bring a trick or treat bag and ride through Bellevue State Park, followed by s'mores and beverages around a campfire. 8-10 p.m. Oct. 29. Preregister no later than 4 p.m. Oct. 28 by calling 761-6963. Meet at the Percheron Barn.

Cost is $8.

Fright Night Maze

Brecknock County Park

Camden, DE

Maze-filled barn, Blood Castle, Graveyard, Toxic Waste Scene and other attractions. 7-10 p.m. Oct. 15-16 and Oct. 22-23. Brecknock County Park, 80 Old Camden Road, Camden. Parents should use discretion when bringing young children. No pets or strollers.

Cost is $5 (limit 1,000 tickets per night).

For ages 8-adult. Benefits Harrington Fire Company. Also, food and other items available will benefit the Harrington Parks and Recreation Department7-11 p.m. Fri.-Sat., through Oct. 30. Lister Acres, 5417 Milford-Harrington Highway, Harrington.

Cost is $8-$10. . Bring two canned goods for food drive on any Friday and receive $1 off admission.

Tuesday October 25, Wednesday October 26, and Thursday October 27. From 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Holly Center, Building 100, Progress Circle, Snow Hill Rd., Salisbury MD. Indoors, Handicap accessible. Look for the big pumpkin outside.

Cost 1 canned food donation per guest.

Haunted Trail of Absolute Horror

Westside Community Center

Bivalve, MD

Saturday October 29th and Monday October 31st. Walk through the woods of Bivalve. Starts at 7 p.m. Scenes include the electric chair, mine shaft, funeral parlor viewing, Jason's cage and more.

Cost Adults, $5, under age 12, $3.
