And what's up with this first pitch swinging crap?! A one point lead, top of the 9th, bases loaded, 2 outs, and Delmon Young is up. He swings at the first 4 pitches and strikes out. The 2nd pitch was eye level, the 3rd pitch he couldn't have reached with a bat a foot longer than regulation, and the 4th pitch was in the dirt. Instead of being patient and sitting with a 3-1 count with the bases loaded, he swings at all four with his eyes closed and hopes to connect.
Come on, Gardy! You are one of the best Managers in baseball. How much is Young paying you to stay on this team, let alone stay in the starting line-up? He is NOT Minnesota Twin material. Basically, he sucks. I cringe whenever he comes to the plate in an important at bat. And I guarantee you opposing managers are telling their batters before going to the plate, "Just hit it to left field. With Young out there, you have a better chance of getting on base than not, even if it's a routine fly. There's a 50-50 chance he won't even see the ball leave the bat and head out his direction."
Come on Gardy. Don't send him down to the minors for batting practice. Don't even trade the slacker. JUST CUT HIM! Get him off the field! Cut your losses and move on. The Twins have a shot this year and Delmon Young will only make it a longer shot.
I'll say it again. Delmon Young is NOT Twin material. He is embarrassing to watch. Maybe he'll be better on another team, probably not, but I am about ready to turn off the TV every time his presence comes into play. He is just too painful to watch. The Twins have 5 or 6 players that will do less damage when on the field or at the plate than Delmon Young will. The guy is just too stupid of a baseball player to be considered a Minnesota Twin.
Figure it out Gardy...and FAST!!!

Post a CommentActually, it was an 0-3 count. He struck out fouling off one pitch. But all four were balls. He had to reach to get the foul tip. So I was saying, instead of 3-1 (or walking in a run if had left the bat on his shoulder) he struck out in four pitches. He did pick it up a bit and actually won one game for the Twins later in the season, but he is still very slow off the bat in the outfield and looks lost more often than not. He needs discipline, both at the plate and in the outfield, I just don't see it coming any too soon. I hope the trade offer goes through. I found I suddenly needed to get a cookie or a refill for my pop every time he came to bat. I just couldn't watch.
Hahah. Funny article, but if he swung at the first four pitches it would be an 0-2 count, not a 3-1 count. Hmm weird. I heard he's being offered for Kevin Kouzmanoff.
Very nicely written
Maybe Delmon Young saw my posting here, or maybe he finally started paying attention to his batting coach, but he has admittedly turned it on since the All-Star break. Of course, this is the Texas Rangers he is doing it with, the worst pitching staff in the majors this season, but hopefully he has turned a corner. Now if someone could only convince him to go see an eye doctor, he may be able to redeem his status as a Minnesota Twin.
