Delstar DS802 2GB MP3 Player Review

With FM Tuner and Voice Recorder

We purchased the Delstar DS802 2GB MP3 Player for a couple reasons; loading music to listen to as we drive around, (instead of using a battery intensive portable CD player), as well as for recording voice and church and other places where we want to save a sound track. For the purposes for which we bought this product, it is great and it does do the job quite well. The music sounds beautiful through it, and voice recordings seem to have nice volume and are easily understood.

My complaint, and a major one, about this unit is the instruction manual. It has been written apparently in China or some other foreign country, by someone with a non fluent experience of the American English. It almost appears as though they used a dictionary and simply translated words without taking notice of our sentence structure, and many area's of the manual are so garbled, they make absolutely no sense what so ever. This would not be a bad thing, if the unit were intuitive and could be easily figured out, but for such a little machine, it is very complicated to figure out how to save recordings and use other features of the device.

The Delstar DS802 2GB MP3 Player also is slow at many things, like going to the recording window can take a couple minutes, and sometimes you have to try again. Once you record something, you cannot simply stop the recorder and have that track saved, it must be told to save the file or you lose it. Once again, going into the saving mode can take some serious time, and it leaves you wondering if it is even working or not.

Unfortunately, there is not a wide selection of quality but cheap MP3/MP4 player/recorders on the market, so we nabbed this one at $25 per unit. I can say, it does the job we intended it for, but it took us quite some time to figure out what they were trying to say, and second guessing what wasn't clear in the manual. If you are electronic device illiterate, I would say this unit is definitely not for you, but if you like solving puzzles and tinkering with devices, this might be right up your alley. If you work for Delstar, tell them to hire an American, (I'm available), to write their manual. Yes, they may have to pay more than 25 cents per day, but it only has to be written in English one.
