Demetrius Byrd, a former wide receiver for Louisiana State University, is reportedly in an Intensive Care Unit at Jackson Memorial Center in Miami, Florida following a car accident on Sunday, April 19, 2009. According to Scout.com, Byrd is in stable condition.

At this time the hospital is not releasing any information concerning Byrd's condition, however, his high school football coach has been in touch with the family and was told that Byrd will recover and be okay. Terry Locket, Byrd's high school football coach gave the following statement to Scout.com in a telephone interview, "He got in a bad accident, but he's in stable condition now."

According to Tiger Droppings, Byrd only suffered mild bumps and bruises and was kept overnight for observation only. This seems like an unlikely case, staying in ICU for mild bumps and bruises.

Byrd, 22, a prospect for the NFL draft, was an outstanding wide receiver at LSU. He is expected to be chosen on Day 2 of the draft. Byrd turned in impressive time in the 40-yd dash for scouts on Pro Day recently, turning in a 4.43 second time. During his senior year at LSU he caught 37 passes, ran for 513 yards and scored 4 touchdowns.
