Just about a week after the Pacquiao-de la Hoya "Dream Match" that many boxing fans thought was a mismatch because of Oscar's superior built, a great match up and definitely not a mismatch is coming up for all boxing fans to enjoy.

This Saturday, Demetrius Hopkins and Kendal Holt will square it off in Atlantic City, New Jersey for the WBO Welterweight championship. Hopkins was scheduled to fight Germaine Sanders in the under card but Ricardo Torres, Holt's designated opponent could not make it to the fight because of certain illness that could prevent him from making the required weight. This unexpected turn of events gave Hopkins the opportunity to fight Holt instead, for the championship crown.

In a conference call, Hopkins said," This is a great opportunity for me and I've been waiting for this for ten years. On Saturday night, I will become the world champion" He added, this is a great match up. He's got power and I got that too, so this is going to be a great fight".

The unexpected match up change obviously affected the training program of both fighters as they had to make adjustments in their game plans. Holt was not happy with the sudden substitution and he said "I would have preferred a fighter with the same style as Torres but I had to take what was available. Many people can't take fight like this on a short notice and make the weight. My trainer and I compared notes and we came up with a game plan".

Demetrius Hopkins is an American boxer and a nephew of Bernard Hopkins, the former middleweight champion of the world. He was born in Pennsylvania on October 10, 1980. As an amateur, he was the 1999 National Golden Gloves Light Welterweight champion.
As a professional boxer, Hopkins is credited with 29 fights winning 28 and drawing one. He remains undefeated. Hopkins is the current USBA Light Welterweight Champion, a title he won over Mario Jose Ramos in a lopsided unanimous decision.

Kendal Holt is likewise an American boxer. Holt was born in Paterson, New Jersey on June 4, 1981. As an amateur, Holt was a three-time New Jersey Golden Gloves Champion. His last fight was with Ricardo Torres that was held last July 2008 in Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino, Las Vegas, Nevada. He won by via knock out in the first round.

The Hopkins-Holt boxing match is destined to be a great match, with Hopkins possibly having a slight edge being undefeated in his professional boxing career. The two boxers are no strangers to each other having fought a few times in their amateur years.
