Demise of Love

Our Generation's Mishandling of Love

Nelson Brasil
I LOVE YOU. These three words have been uttered in every context one could imagine. This phrase has been truthfully confessed, and scandalously lied. This powerful emotion has been the reason people live, and the reason people die. In today's world though, it has been demoted to being kicked around, and thrown about without just meaning or feeling.

How many of us have heard those words uttered between breaths of lusting passion, or worse yet breaths of anger filled tension? It seems that love has become a tool, rather than a way of life. Chivalry is dead and gone; loyalty seems to be on its way out. We have managed to not only crack, but to brutally demolish the most important emotion the human race has ever known. Our generation is more focused on sex, than on companionship. They tally up partners, and compete with their peers.

How could we allow this to happen? Instead of romance filled stories of "How I met your mother son," we get "She was drunk on the bar, and I swooped up on her." I feel sorry for our generation, and although there are exceptions, it scares me to think of how our children, and grandchildren will face "love." Will it even show shades of its prime, or will it fall through the cracks all together? My sincere wish is that one-day, love return to the glory days of before. I will keep doing my part to rekindle the true meaning of love in any of my relationships. I will keep romance, and corny chivalry alive as best I can. I will be proud of being a hopeless romantic, and when I reach the end of my life, hopefully things will be looking better for true lovers.
