The answer seems obvious...as Republican's now run the House suddenly Democrat leaders want to see a continued explosion of deficits and the national debt. Isn't this apparent? What better way to build a platform on which to run in 2012 than to refuse to cooperate on budget matters so that then if budgets remain astronomical they can point their gnarled fingers at Republicans and scream "See! Republican's lied! They didn't spend responsibly! And they want to kill Granny by cutting her SSI!" Can ya hear them now?
Close on the heels of that hope is that the government will experience a temporary shutdown. Why would Democrats want that, one might inquire? Look back to the Clinton Administration for the answers. When the government had shutdowns back when Newt was Speaker the progressive media made big time hay with it as if it was actually crippling. To a Democrat that's a win worthy of near any sacrifice.
Mind you the Democrats, who were in charge until January of this year, never passed a budget of their own last year, so who's fault is this really? Especially in that Democrats will play the "politics" game with it and refuse to cooperate on making any spending curbs now that Republican's are in charge. A series of continuing resolutions that do not make any cuts will see a continued high level of deficit and Democrats would love that for election time in 2012. For Democrats it's all politics, all the time and if the nation is hurt, fine by them so long as they can blame the Republican leadership in the House. And the nation will be further hurt by not slashing spending. Every penny borrowed puts us that much deeper in the hole.
Democrats are already in campaign mode. They have one hope given the mood of the nation last November and at present and that is to extend any misery as long as possible to use as talking points in the run up to November, 2012. People are peeved at government and to a Democrat that is a recipe for continuing the misery as long as possible. They hope citizens will blame Republicans for any failure to right the ship as citizens blamed Democrats in 2010. They hope voters have short memories and forget Democrats and Obama exploded deficits. Interesting that now Democrats claim we must cut entitlements - when Democrats were in charge entitlements were a decided non-starter. Hmmmm....
According to Democrat pol Bob Beckel, "the debt is not a problem; another trillion dollar stimulus will put people to work...and if one really wants to cut spending, they will have to cut entitlements," e.g., SSI, Medicare, Medicaid. (paraphrased)
Hmmmm...the legendary "third rail of politics" is the only choice? To a Democrat this is Heaven. Imagine...Republicans try to cut one of the Big Three entitlements, Democrats vote "no" on the Hill and then scream come election time about Republican's wanting to kill Granny. Who'd a thunk it? All Democrat electioneering, all the time.

Post a CommentBut only Republicans are hypocrites.
Both parties are full of idiots, jockeying for position and constantly pointing fingers. Both chambers are full of millionaires doing what's best for the monied, the landed, and the "haves." Most don't give a damn about ideology except as a reelection tool. Those that truly do believe they're doing right or are driven ideologically are few and far between but it is difficult to tell which is which at times. Most of these bastards would sell their own mothers to line their own pockets a bit more, the long-term welfare of the nation be damned. Such is the mindset of the corporate multinationalist -- talk local, legislate globally, blame someone else...
What an old tactic: Blame the Republicans. It's all the Dems know how to do in consequence of the idiotic things THEY do.
Is the budget made to destroy the economy even further? It makes one wonder
It is a really sad state of affairs we have landed on dangerous shores. Hopefully there will be a resolve soon. cheers
