Democrat Martha Coakley Recommended Convicted Child Rapist Be Released with No Cash Bail

Marc Schenker
MA Democrat Attorney General Martha Coakley, her party's supposedly "best" nominee for the Senate, recommended that a convicted child rapist be released with no cash bail despite the plethora of evidence that he raped a 23-month-old girl with a hot, curling iron. This...ahem...misjudgment by the then-DA occurred in 2006, but stemmed from an October 2005 case in which a policeman whose union-representative father steered lots of endorsements and donations to the Coakley for AG campaign raped a 23-month-old toddler, also his own niece! This story ought to be front-and-center in the mainstream, liberal media, but it isn't because it would be too damning for Coakley. MA voters ought to ask themselves, Do we want a woman whose office recommended releasing a convicted child rapist as our senator??

The genesis of Martha Coakley's scandalous story goes like this. On a day in October 2005, a policeman by the name of Keith Winfield was baby sitting his 23-month-old niece, along with his own two daughters. That afternoon, when the toddler's grandma picked her up, she discovered that the toddler was crying, but not only that-she also refused to walk. After the grandma took the toddler home, she was more shocked to discover a severe "diaper rash" when she was changing her diaper. Fast forward some hours later, and the toddler's mom returns home from work: The girl was still crying due to being in continuous pain. At 11PM on the same day, still, when the mom changed the toddler's diaper once more, she became very startled to discover that the previously alarmingly red area had given way to a situation where her toddler's genital and anal area were bleeding, and the skin was peeling off, too.

The next morning, the mom took her toddler to her pediatrician who referred her to a hospital, and she would ultimately spend a month in Shriners Hospital for Children in Boston, trying to recover from the rape with a hot, curling iron. As the adult who was in the company of the 23-month-old on the day that her private area's skin began peeling and bleeding, suspicion naturally fell on the policeman uncle, Keith Winfield. In fact, a statement made on November 7, 2005, by the policeman was incriminating enough that prosecutors used it at Winfield's trial to show motive for hurting his 23-month-old niece.

Before all this was established during the trial that ultimately led to the conviction of Keith Winfield and his ensuing double-life sentence for child rape of his niece, the victim's family had to endure massive obstructionism from Coakley's office because, as Frank Frisoli has asserted, Keith Winfield's father was a union representative who steered endorsements and donations to Coakley when she was running for AG!

Thanks to obstructionism from Coakley's office, the poor victim's family had to endure-on top of the trauma of child rape-months and months of stonewalling on the part of Coakley. Indeed, the foot-dragging from Coakley became so extreme that the victim's family had to actually get a lawyer to represent them to put pressure on Coakley's office to file charges against Winfield! Said lawyer was the late Larry Frisoli (now deceased from kidney and liver failure in 2009), and if there's a good guy in this sordid-but-true tale of a Democrat seemingly protecting a child rapist, it's him.

On behalf of the poor victim's mom, Frisoli even had to file applications for criminal complaints in local, district court, precisely because the DA's office under Coakley's awful management and "leadership" was obstructing the process of filing charges against Winfield! In fact, Frisoli became so outraged at the miserable conduct of Coakley's foot-dragging and seeming protecting of Winfield that he even ran against her as a Republican for attorney general, just to force the matter.

Making things even more shockingly worse was the fact that Coakley's office-despite all the aforementioned facts being delivered to her office by Frisoli in a package-recommended releasing Winfield on no cash bail. Unbelievably, Winfield-the child rapist-policeman who ultimately would be convicted and sentenced to two life sentences for the crime-would walk around freely in MA until December 2007!

As Larry Frisoli's brother, Frank, also a lawyer, revealed on Hannity's great segment, Coakley's office even lied to the victim's family about the decision of the first grand jury to decide whether to charge Winfield or not. According to Frank Frisoli, Coakley's office dismissed the first grand jury after telling them they didn't want an indictment returned. This was more than half a year after the child rape, and Coakley's office even lied to the victim's family, misinforming them that the grand jury was at fault for failing to indict!

After all this scandalous mishandling of the cop-child rapist case, Coakley somehow managed to circumvent any heat and managed to get herself elected as AG! Clearly, the liberal media, locally, must've covered this up because I can't believe MA voters would willingly vote for a politician who's criminally soft on child rapists-even if they're Democrats. The moral of the story is that corrupt, government officials get away with a lot of shocking and traumatizing viciousness if no one-such as, saaaaaay...uhhhh, the media-watches them. MA voters must ask themselves, Do we want to send a woman to the Senate who's verifiably lax on child rapists?

I am a life long resident of MA. When this case was adjudicated, there was a conscious effort to keep the details from public perview. As to the comment that we should be voting for someone, not against someone, I agree. I will vote for Scott Brown because he opposes this type of egregious abuse. The campaign has gotten so nasty that he has been forced to file a law suit to force the Coakley campaign to stop distorting his record.

what an extremely awful thing to do to his own neice and he is STILL a police man?! How can ANYONE(esp. the AG) expect such a monster to uphold the law in the community?! God help this country...

So sad what happened to that baby!

  • avezes1/16/2010

did you read the details? It is often that bail is not asked for when people show up on their own and they have generations of roots in the community.
It would be one thing if there was something that had happened as a result of this, but it turned out she was right. He showed up for his trial and was convicted.
So, is your argument that she was ... See Moreright?
What is sad is people pulling this child's trauma out for their own political gain.
What politics needs is to get back to why you vote FOR somebody instead of all of this dirt digging, why should vote AGAINST the other campaigning. And sadder that we, as Americans give them reason to keep doing this by buying into it every single time.

I dont think this has anything to do with party affiliation. It has to do with greed and hunger for power. Unfortunately it happens on both sides. That little baby is a victim, of not only that sick monster who should never see the light of day, but of our society's disgusting craving for money and prestige.

  • JerseyNana1/16/2010

Marc, regardless of party affiliation, she is despicable to recommend anything but the death penalty to such a vile person!
