Democrats Getting Desperate

Jesse Jackson Jr. Calls for Ex-Constitutional Approaches to Unemployment

Lorraine Yapps Cohen

COMMENTARY | You know things are getting tough when dyed-in-the-wool Democrats lash out. Jesse Jackson Jr. called for a suspension of constitutionality, essentially calling for despotism, to get a desperate Democrat message about jobs across to those who don't have one.

Prospective GOP candidates are vetting their ideas for improving the economy. All involve some form of relief from overbearing government, overbearing taxes, overbearing environmental protectionism, overbearing politicization of every aspect of life, and excruciating unemployment. All say something positive about job creation through the tried-and-true application of capitalism in the context of values our founding fathers envisioned.

But Jackson Jr would do away with all that. He wants to see America's 15 million unemployed employed by the government, according to a piece in the PJ Tatler. In comments to The Daily Caller, he went on to suggest that instead of making a plan for business to begin hiring again, Obama should "declare a national emergency" and take "extra-constitutional" action to tackle unemployment.

In the absence of any plan for improving employment from the president up to now, Jackson Jr. suggests that Obama should step beyond the bounds of the duty of his office. Uncharted territory and approaches that should never apply in a democracy are being touted as the only way out. Reversing the desperate unemployment in America is meeting desperate Democrats with no idea how that is done.

Herman Cain's 9-9-9 plan has employment in mind. Jobs are created when people have their own money to spend. They stimulate business by buying the goods and services they need. Entrepreneurs start such businesses and create the demanded products. They hire. People buy. Tax revenues flow into government. Everybody wins. But neither Jackson Jr. nor Obama know this.

Rick Perry is soon to announce the specifics of his national jobs creation plan, as if he needs one. Texas's business-friendly environment has created hundreds of thousands of jobs for the state and attracted them from elsewhere in droves.

When we hear of Democrats like Jackson Jr. proposing measures so alien to valued American principles, we wonder who could possibly be listening to such drivel, nevermind believe that they would ever work. All while giving up the constitutional rights and protections we value as Americans.

There is no idea out there on jobs creation that this American dislikes more.

Just "wow." I agree with you.

Although I have my doubts about Rick Perry and Herman Cain, both of these candidates are so far superior to the current resident in the White House that it defies belief. Excellent article, thanks!

I think we as Christians need to take our country back with a Christian president! He or she does not need to be perfect but they do need to know how to walk with the Lord! We need to pray everyday for our country! A country without a Godly president is doomed to failure! America needs to come back to God!! Love to all !!!

There's a word for that plan, and its called COMMUNISM.

Wow, just...wow. Congress in rebellion because it voted against the President, eh? And using Abraham Lincoln's actions during the Civil War as a justifying precedent? I'd say it takes more than bickering Congressmen to justify overriding the Constitution. What a farce; I sincerely hope this is laughed out of the realm of possibility. But who can say what will happen anymore; we live in the Twilight Zone...

Roosevelt created the New Deal that offered jobs to pave highways and create things such as the Hoover Dam. Obama should learn from his fellow Democrat.

Especially the $$$ people earned themselves, Michele! Nothing ruins people's incentive to work more than when the government confiscates your earnings for itself.

You know, I'm reminded of the church that did that reverse offering. Put $$$ back in people's wallets, they will spend them and the economy will respond. Makes sense to me :) cheers!
