Democrats - You Have Just Been Given the Reason Why You Need to Vote!

The Sleeping Giant, and I Do Mean Sleeping, Has Been Given Notice

David Lindberg
Yesterday's elections are being claimed as a victory for Republicans. While it was, it was more a statement of visible evidence of the fact that people just do not take voting seriously. Here is my insight. The Democratic Party has traditionally been known as the party of the blue collar, lower income and working class people. Being a Democrat is almost a decision of it being inherited by birth or family membership, but Democrats just do not take voting seriously. Some people become Republican through family osmosis, as Democrats do, but more so, people make a more conscious decision to be Republican and they are just more passionate about it. They make sure they get out there, especially when they feel they may lose if they don't. Let me just make an obvious statement here, to try to prevent others from saying it. Not all Democrats lack passion. I'm talking about large percentages though.

It is the personal opinion of this writer, that IF voting were mandatory for every U.S. citizen, there would probably never be another Republican in office. President Obama won due to two main reasons - Democrats and Independents having enough of the previous eight years, and the genius and relentless political machine of the Barack Obama team. Democrats always need an extra push to get out and vote. Republicans do not. Even the two elections of President Bush victories were close and controversial.

Yesterday's election was a false victory for the Republican Party, and do not think that they don't know that. They are hailing it as the way back and indeed it can be...IF voter turnout remains low. Yesterday's election was about numbers. The media made only slight mention that the turnout of voters who supported President Obama was extremely low if at all. BINGO! That is the true story of the election. Republicans will most assuredly win if voter turnout is low!

Yesterday's election results were actually good for the Democratic Party. This is the ONLY way Democrats find the gumption to get off their butts and vote. Actually, yesterday woke the sleeping, and I do mean sleeping, giant in the room. It was exactly what Democrats needed to realize that IF they want their philosophies to prevail, they must take the half hour out of their day and vote. We all saw the long lines of voters in the last Presidential election. That's what won! That's what happens when people who do not typically vote, make the monumental decision to do so!

You can take it to the bank, and it is something that the Republican Party well knows. If the poor, low income, and middle income voters, who do not typically bother to vote are inspired, found, driven to the polls, the Democrats will win.

Yesterday was just a small slap in the face of freezing cold spring water to wake up the Democratic Party. You can't take voting for granted. It matters!

Thanks for reading and commenting Rich. Yes, as usual...mainstream media blows up proportions and then drops the story when no longer needed.

It was actually a lot of hoo-haw over nothing. I mean, the NY congressional race had some national implications, but the NJ and VA governor's races can be easily (and rightfully) explained on their own individual merits.

"how do you explain the large number of "blue collar, lower income and working class people" who support the PARTY of the rich, by the rich, for THE rich? - answer: FEAR and reaction without thought. (not good, but it is what it is....)

No matter which side of the political fence far more people should turn up at the polls for voting for more than just the 4 yr elections but it is even more important to look to the state and local elections.

    Good article :)

That should be "the PARTY of the rich, by the rich, for THE rich." Sorry...

Great work... but, how do you explain the large number of "blue collar, lower income and working class people" who support the part of the rich, by the rich, for he rich? Look at the hysteria with which people are supporting the medical industrial complex & the insurance companies, against their own interests in health-care reforms? Our state rep. (Repub.) is a rich boy who has never had to work for a living, but the working-class folks just think he's great. Ugh.
