Demon's Souls is developed by From Software. Founded in 1986, the video game software development company is responsible for several memorable series like Armored Core, King's Filed, Lost Kingdoms, Otogi and Tenchu. Demon's Souls is the spiritual successor to the King's Filed.
What makes the upcoming Playstation 3 exclusive title so special is the deep and rewarding gameplay. Demon's Souls is an open-ended adventure game where you fight the most powerful demons in the land. Although it is unapologetically challenging, the game is also quite addicting at the same time.
Demon's Souls is also noted for its online multiplayer. Players can leave behind messages for others. Furthermore, up to four players can team up can tackle a particular level together. Finally, you can partake in a competitive mode where you control one of the enemies who the other player must fight.
Demon's Souls was released in Japan on February 5, 2009. The Playstation 3 exclusive game got great reviews and became a cult hit. Despite the game's success, Sony, who owns the publishing rights for the title, decided to bypass bringing it to North America. It was an interesting decision considering that Sony relies heavily on their exclusive first-party lineup to help push Playstation 3 hardware. However, being a western-styled RPG game from Japan limits the market greatly for Demon's Souls.
Fortunately, Atlus was able to acquire the rights to publish the game in North America. The small publisher specializes in niche Japanese titles like Demon's Souls. So Sony not publishing the game in North America could end up being a blessing in disguise in the end for gamers.
Demon's Souls is slated for a lunch in North America eight months after coming out in Japan on October 6th. Aside from their niche titles, Atlus is also known for adding special bonus items to their games. Those who pre-order Demon's Souls will receive an art book for the Playstation 3 exclusive title.
Furthermore, hardcore fans can choose to purchase the deluxe edition of Demon's Souls. For $10 more, the premium version of the title includes a full strategy guide and a special case in addition to the game itself. As usual, the quantity will be limited.
Whether you choose to purchase the standard or deluxe edition, Demon's Souls will certainly be one of the best Playstation 3 games in the fall.
