Dennis Hopper Cancer Diagnosis Saddens Hopper Fans

Robert Dougherty
Dennis Hopper cancer news comes as a shock to Dennis Hopper fans today. The Dennis Hopper cancer diagnosis comes weeks after Dennis Hopper went to the hospital for flu-like symptoms. But this cancer diagnosis is much more series, as the legendary actor now has to put his career on hold and focus exclusively on getting better. Not long after news of Dennis Hopper's cancer broke, he canceled his current projects and went to USC to begin a "special program."

According to manager Sam Maydew, Dennis Hopper was diagnosed with prostate cancer recently. Whether this has anything to do with his hospitalization a few weeks ago is unknown, though it may have been a warning sign.

With Hopper's cancer discovered, he now plans to get a special treatment for it at USC, while putting his film and art projects on hold. Hopper had planned to introduce his newest art exhibition at Melbourne, Australia in the days ahead.

In addition to his movie and television work, Hopper is also well known for his art and photography over the decades. Since Hopper is regarded as one of the most influential actos of the 60's and 70's, and is still active in all fields today, his cancer diagnoses is a blow to much of Hollywood.

Dennis Hopper's cancer comes after he finished with the second season of the Starz series Crash, so fans can still catch him in new episodes the next several weeks. He was also working on several films, as he continues to be one of the busiest actors in the business, even at 73. But all of that is on hold as he fights to stay healthy.

The Hopper cancer diagnosis is ominous, but not untreatable. Prostate cancer is a very dangerous disease for men, but the vast majority of men with the disease are able to live on for at least 10-15 more years.

The American Cancer Society estimates that at least 2 million men still live with the disease, although around 27,000 may die from it this year alone. But current statistics are still in Hopper's favor, though that is just regarding how long he may live, and not the quality of his life.

Dennis Hopper cancer treatment is bound to go on for some time, likely for the rest of his life. What this will do to his career in the short and long term is uncertain, but that is a bridge to cross for another day.
