Dennis Hopper Files for Divorce from Wife No. 5

Another Hollywood Marriage Gone Down the Tubes

Mare Coogan
As you may have read on ABC News ,Dennis Hopper, star of such diverse films as Easy Rider, Rebel without a Cause, Giant, Apocalypse Now and Blue Velvet, filed for divorce from wife number 5 recently. It came down to....Irreconcilable Differences. Which In Hollywood that usually means money.

The funny thing is, the money part didn't surprise me, but the part that he has prostate cancer, is on his death bed and suddenly wants a divorce...that did! Sounds like a new low to me, even by Hollywood standards.

Now the dirt is starting to fly. All the tabloids and entertainment shows are trying to feed a salacious public as fast as they can with the juicy details. One shocking revelation after another. Another Hollywood marriage ends in divorce. Shocking details at eleven!

What's now starting to emerge is how greedy the soon-to-be ex is. From here on out I can guarantee you it's only going to get worse. How generous he was, how greedy she was. He gave her everything from couture dresses, to a ranch to museum quality artworks, according to a longtime family confidant, reports the New York Post . All I can say is at this point I don't know who or what to believe, I just know we won't hear the end of it...that is until he passes.

I don't know why, but this news story left me kind of cold towards him. Granted he's a decent character actor, although I can't think of any movie that he was particularly outstanding in. I vaguely remember him in Apocalypse Now, which I believe is his best role to date. Or, Blue Velvet. But those were so long ago I hardly remember them. The actor part of him was ok, but the husband part, maybe not so great?

I just think the timing seems kind of shabby. At least if he did it before the announcement he had cancer I would've felt differently, I hope I'm wrong about him because he was kind of likable in his own way. I'm just thinking there has to be something more to this story.

Honestly, I don't know what to think or who to believe anymore when a story comes out of Hollywood. It just strikes me as sad more than anything else.

If anyone wants to give their opinion please feel free to do so.

I'll agree with you about his talent, no question about that. As far as that book goes, that's something I'd love to see. Was it published recently?

14 years though! That is a long time to stay married to a tough character just for money. I find it difficult to believe his longest marriage yet, is with a gold digger.

Hopper has been a supporter of the arts and a great activist for many years. I have a wonderful book of photography by him, published by Viggo Mortensen's company. I think he is a talented and important character of the 20th Century. I am sad to loose him. The full story of what is going on between him and his wife are not clear yet.

I don't disagree with you and I'm a.....girl! You're right about the age thing there's no way a woman would be with a man that age unless it had to do with money and fame. The only thing I'd like to add is there's no way he'd be with her either unless she was younger. These old Hollywood types are never with someone there own age! Basically they each deserve what's coming to them...even though I think it's sad.

That's awesome...don't let the money grubbin wench get anything more than she can by the law. Too bad for her? She should be with someone her own age, there is no way she is attracted to that old bag of cancerous bones-she's after the dough and she was using him , but now he gets the LAST LAUGH...and she gets next to nothing-aaaaaaaaa hahahahaha.
(ps, if you disagree with me then you are a girl or are gay)
