Dennis Quaid's Newborn Babies Overdosed

Actor Dennis Quaid and his wife Kimberly's had twins on last Sunday, the 18 of November. A few days later the news broke that due to a hospital mistake, the twins had received an overdose of the blood thinning medicine heparin, along with one other baby. They got the massive amount of 10,000 units per ml, as compared to what they should have got which was 10.

The hospital Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, have gone out to the media and apologized for the error. Chief surgeon Michael Langberg tells KNBC that the babies are still getting help after the overdose, and although their condition has not worsened the last few days, it might take another week before they know if there are permanent damages.

Dennis Quaid and his wife asked the press to respect their privacy in the hard times, but that they were thankful for people's warm thoughts and prayers.

California's Health Department are currently investigating the serious overdose, but apparently the hospital kept the heparin in the wrong place, which lead to the nurse taking the wrong dose. The chief surgeon is cooperating with the Health Department, because as he put it: "This should never had happened, but now we need to find the cause of this, to make sure it never happens again.".

The name of the other baby affected by this, has not yet been made public.

Quaid's twin babies were born by surrogacy, but they are the children's biological parents. They have been married for three years. Quid has a 15 year old from before from his marriage with Meg Ryan, but for Kimberly it will be her first.

Dennis Quaid has starred in a number of movies, and has enjoyed a great deal of success. He is also a musician, and has a band called the Sharks.

How awful! I hope that the babies are okay. That is very scary.

This story is so sad. I wish such mistakes weren't so common, but it seems that they occur more and more. I'm sure everything will work out eventually but it is just a horrible situation.
