Denny's Free Grand Slam Breakfast Set for February 9, 2010

Other than the controversial Tim Tebow ad, expect to see a few other commercials running during the Super Bowl, including several to advertise Denny's free Grand Slam Breakfast promotion, set for Tuesday, February 9, 2010. On Tuesday, after the Monday morning quarterbacking is but a distant memory, Indianapolis Colts and New Orleans Saints fans (and anyone else) can visit their local Denny's to either celebrate their team's Super Bowl win or, in the alternative, have a little comfort food gratis.

Denny's will serve a free Grand Slam breakfast to guests between the hours of 6:00 A.M. and 2:00 P.M. Diners looking for free breakfast can expect to wait in line as this promotion was extremely popular last year. So popular, in fact, that MSN reported that some Denny's saw a five-fold increase in customers coming through their doors to enjoy a free hot meal. While the Grand Slam itself is free, ordering a beverage to complement your meal is not. Expect to pay about $2 for coffee or juice.

Calculating the tip for your waitress at Denny's

A Grand Slam retails for approximately $6 and customers lured in by the promise of a free meal may wish to keep this in mind when it comes to tipping their waitress. If a customer orders a Grand Slam and a cup of coffee for $2, the total price of their meal is around $8. A 20% tip on that $8 is approximately $1.60. It is customary to tip on the full value of the meal before any discounts are taken off the bill.

Where else can you get a free breakfast in February?

Later this month, on February 23, 2010, IHOP will celebrate Free Pancake Day. On Free Pancake Day, IHOP will be serving a free short stack of pancakes to its guests from 7:00 A.M. through 10:00 P.M. Donations for Children's Miracle Network or other local charities are solicited at this event and IHOP hopes to raise enough money to reach its goal of raising $5 million dollars in 5 years at this yearly event.

These free breakfast events are limited to dine-in customers only. So be sure to mark your calendar, arrive early and expect to wait a bit before you can begin to enjoy your free meal.
