Dental Care Tips for Cats

Cleaning your cat's teeth will not be an easy process at first, but your cat will get more co-operative the more you do it. Listed in this article are tips that have helped me care for our family cat's teeth. Remember that cleaning your cat's teeth is a very important part of keeping your cat healthy and happy.

1. Start to brush your cat's teeth as soon as you receive your kitten or cat. The younger you start with
your kitten or cat the better.

2. Find toothpaste that has a flavor that appeals to your cat's appetite. For my cat we use the poultry
flavored toothpaste advertised on 1800petmeds.com. My cat loves this flavor.

3. Brush your cat's teeth once a day. I set aside a time of day such as morning for my cat's teeth
cleaning. My cat has come to expect this.

4. Use a soft bristled toothbrush. Using a finger toothbrush works great.

5. Get your cat comfortable with the taste of the toothpaste by placing a small amount on your finger
have your cat lick a bit of the toothpaste off your finger.

6. Start out slow by cleaning only a few teeth at one...

7. be sure to talk to your cat as you clean its teeth. This will keep your cat calm & relaxed.

8. Brush each surface of the tooth for at least 30 seconds each.

9. Always praise your cat and reward it with cat treats after the tooth cleaning is done.

10. If your cat's teeth has a lot of tartar you may need to have them cleaned at a vet's office.

You may also use these tips to clean your dog's teeth. Is your pet's health in need of teeth cleaning? If so, remember to start out slow and easy. To keep your pets teeth clean and fresh in between cleanings use something like a tartar control treat, this will help cut down on the tartar.
