Denture Care

Denture care is an important part of keeping your smile healthy. Dentures are not cleansed in the same way that natural teeth are. There are many special instructions when caring for your dentures. Cleaning your dentures helps eliminate unsightly stains and odors. It will also help maintain good oral health. Good denture care will help preserve quality and prolong the life of your dentures.

Dentures should be cleansed daily. This is very important. Bacteria build up on the teeth and on the plate of the denture. If it is not removed, it can eventually lead to gum disease or other oral conditions. You may also choose to rinse dentures after eating meals. This will help eliminate any particles from being embedded any further into your denture.

Before you begin cleaning your dentures, you should fill the sink with water. This will help absorb the shock if your dentures were to accidentally slip out of your hands. Dentures do break, so make sure you have a good grip and use both hands while cleaning. You may also want to line the sink with a towel to help reduce the risk of breakage.

Always clean your dentures with a soft-bristled toothbrush. Hard bristles may cause damage to the surface of your dentures. Hot water will warp denture plates. Always use warm water for your denture care. Do not put too much pressure on your dentures. Accidents often happen while brushing dentures. There are many denture care cleaning products that are specially designed for the care of dentures. You should choose the product that best fits with your needs and budget. Brush all sides of your denture plate. You should clean your dentures with a special denture product daily. Never use regular toothpaste; it will create small scratches that can fill with bacteria.

Most dentists recommend soaking your dentures during the night. You may soak your dentures in water or you may choose from a variety of over-night denture cleansing agents. There are special denture containers available that will hold your teeth as they cleanse. Store your dentures in an area with low traffic. You may want to place them at a higher level if you have small children or pets.

Good oral hygiene and denture care go hand in hand. Caring for your dentures helps maintain their appearance and also helps to keep your mouth healthy. Give your dentures daily attention and they will last for a long time. When your dentures are at their best, your smile shows it!
