Whether you live near Denver or just passing through, one spot you should place on your to-do list is visiting the Denver Art Museum. The museum is located near other downtown destinations like the 16th Street Pedestrian Mall, Denver Center for Performing Arts and plenty of shopping and dining locations scattered about. When you need a dose of culture, the Denver Art Museum has various exhibits to enjoy throughout the year. Be sure to check out these events in 2011:

Immobilite: A Foreign Film by Mark Amerika

Through January 31, 2011 - Watch a contemporary film by local artist Mark Amerika. The feature film, which showcases the nature of contemporary life, is unscripted, improvised and shot using a cell phone camera.

Marc Brandenburg: Deutsch-Amerikanische Freundschaft

Through February 20, 2011 - This solo exhibit is a first for Marc Brandenburg, and features 30 black-and-white drawings from private European collections.

Shape & Spirit: Selections from the Lutz Bamboo Collection

Through March 30, 2011 - Interested in seeing more than 200 items made out of bamboo? This exhibit showcases furniture, figurines and baskets made of the natural resource.

Robert Benjamin: Notes from a Quiet Life

Through May 29, 2011 - Catch a glimpse of everyday life of photographer Robert Benjamin as he shows photos of family and other things he comes across on a daily basis. The exhibit shares the beauty of everyday life and the 'simple' things.

Western Horizons: Landscapes from the Contemporary Realism Collection

Through August 28, 2011 - This exhibit displays more than 25 contemporary western landscapes, with artists influenced by famous western painters such as Charles M. Russell. The landscaping paintings show the peaceful beauty of the American West.

What Is Modern?

Through November 30, 2011 - For those who appreciate modern art, this exhibition features innovative designs from the past 200 years. The exhibit has industrial and graphic designs as well as furniture.

Olivetti: Innovation & Identity

Through November 30, 2011 - The Innovation and Identity exhibit features Italian advertising in post World War II, and the graphic images and colors improved Italy's role in modern design.

Upcoming Events:

American Indian Art

Opens January 30, 2011 - Native American artwork will be showcased in remodeled exhibits which feature Northwest Coast and American Indian work going through prehistoric to contemporary times. There will be 700 objects in the new exhibit, many of which are available for the first time.

Blink! Light, Sound & the Moving Image

Opens March 13, 2011 - This large scale exhibit is a first for the Denver Art Museum and features the transformation of technology through the last 30 years. The exhibit is based on electronic and current media.

Cities of Splendor: A Journey Through Renaissance Italy

Opens April 10, 2011 - For those who appreciate renaissance art, textiles and paintings, the Cities of Splendor exhibit will feature 50 pieces of art through various regions in Italy.

The Denver Art Museum is located at 100 W. 14th Avenue Parkway. General admission to the museum is $10 for Colorado residents and $13 for non-residents, $8 for resident seniors and students and $10 for non-residents, and $3 for resident youth (ages 6 to 18) and $5 for non-residents. Children under 5 are free.
