The Denver Art Museum Special Events in early 2011 combine traditional art with modern, unique representations of many types of art-from culinary arts, to performing arts, to even the appreciation of wine as an art form. The following special events are planned through spring of 2011, in addition to the Architecture Tours and Collection Highlight Tours which are available each month. You can also visit the Denver Art Museum (DAM) and enjoy free admission on the first Saturday of each month. Grab a friend or two, shake off those winter blues, and enjoy some culture and art appreciation compliments of the Denver Art Museum!

Denver Art Museum Special Events: January 2011

The Materials of Asian Art - Jadeite Jade: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly - January 19th @ 12:00pm | Free to Asian Art Association members, $5 to DAM staff, teachers and students, and $10 for general admission.

Explore the fascinating elements of Jadeite Jade in this lecture, hosted by expert Don Kay. Learn how jadeite jade is classified and how value is determined while examining samples of this rich, popular stone. Whether you are interested in jewelry making, jade collecting, or the science of mining and provenance, this lecture may be exactly what you need to get started. Denver Art Museum Special Events: February 2011

Design After Dark | LIGHT - February 4th @ 7:00pm | Advanced tickets are $35 for ages 35 and under, $60 DAM and Design Council members, and $75 for nonmembers; admission increases $10 at the door.

This mid-winter party is also a silent auction, intended to raise awareness of design and generate funds to fuel the Denver Art Museum's departments of Design and Graphics and Architecture. You can view an incredible showcase of over 30 one-of-a-kind art pieces, from local designers and architects here in Colorado. If you are interested in architecture or graphic design, this DAM special event is a perfect opportunity to put on fancy attire and hobnob with emerging and established art contributors. A DAM Valentine's Special with Opera Colorado - February 12th @ 10:00am | Free after general admission.

Give yourself and your date a new Valentine's Day experience while soaking in culture and enjoying the talent of the Opera Colorado artists. The combination of visual arts and performing arts inspired by classic Valentine's Day themes is sure to create a spellbinding celebration you and your paramour won't be quick to forget! The special event details suggest a few V-Day surprises await those who attend this day-long celebration of romance, heartache and fairy tales. No reservations required.

The Art of the Chef - February 25th @ 7:00pm |Tickets are $50 for members of CultureHaus, and $65 for nonmembers.

Explore the best of Denver's culinary arts in this special event dedicated to amazing cuisine. You can watch performances and competitions between culinary artists, with the added bonus of an abundance of taste-testing opportunities from the folks at Gourmet Fine Catering in Denver. The culinary arts are much more than food creation; they combine a feast for the senses with traditional styles and modern variations of famous dishes. Grab your favorite Foodie friends and learn more about the CultureHaus support group at this delicious special event. Denver Art Museum Special Events: March 2011

Teacher Workshop: Writing & Painting in Japan- March 12th @ 8:00am | Tickets are $60 each.

Learn fascinating details about Japanese Culture from speaker Tei Kobayashi, a Japanese American artist and writer. Although the workshop is intended for teachers who want to mimic Kobayashi's techniques for ink painting and Japanese poetry forms, anyone with interest in the Japanese Culture, ink painting, installation art or Japanese writing may want to attend this cultural event for an infusion of Japanese appreciation. Reservations are required, and can be scheduled by calling 720-865-5000.

Denver Art Museum Special Events: April 2011

DAM Uncorked Wine Tasting - April 15th @ 6:00pm | Tickets are $70 for DAM members, $90 for nonmembers, and $30 for designated drivers. "First Taste Tickets" are an additional $35 each.

DAM Uncorked 11, the eleventh annual wine tasting special event, is the premier event for wine lovers in Denver. With over 300 wines from all around the world, your taste buds are sure to appreciate the wealth of wine samples and hors d'oeuvres. Learn more about wine tasting and appreciation from tasting guides, and beat the crowd and attend as early as 5:00pm with the "First Taste Tickets" option. This special event is business casual attire, and tickets will be available beginning February 1st, 2011, on the DAM website.

DAM Uncorked Dinner & Auction - April 16th @ 6:00pm | Tickets are $250 for individuals, $2,500 for a table of 10, or $5,000 for a corporate table of 10.

Continue your enjoyment of the DAM Uncorked 11 event with dinner and both live and silent auctions. You will enjoy exceptional wines, certainly the best Denver has to offer, and a splendid meal with fellow wine enthusiasts. Attendees enjoy access to private art collections, and the auctions are expected to include travel packages, rare bottles of wine and other exclusive items. Don your favorite cocktail attire, and enjoy an evening of culture, sophistication and fantastic wine, compliments of the Denver Art Museum and DAM Uncorked 11. Día del Niño/Day of the Children - April 24th @ 12:00pm |This is a free event.

Enjoy the cultural and ethnic diversity of Denver at this special event, which celebrates children from all around the world. This special event is family-friendly and completely free, making it a great way to get out of the house with your family and learn about youth of many other cultures. This event is sponsored by the DAM Latino Outreach Committee, and no reservations are required.
