In order to be permitted to join in the auditions, potential Denver Broncos cheerleaders were asked to fill out an Audition Application, available on the Denver Broncos website. A PDF version of the tryout information was also available on the website. This information included location, time, what to bring, what to wear, directions and instructions.
Participants were asked not to bring guests, but had to bring a photograph for identification and their completed application. The tryouts took place at INVESCO Field. Hard sole shoes were prohibited.
Participants participated in what is known as an "Across the Floor" routine. Taught during the audition itself, this routine split the prospective cheerleaders into groups of three and included some basic moves and simple choreography. The purpose of this was to allow judges to select 100 participants who would continue to Round Two of the Denver Broncos cheerleaders' tryouts.
Round Two involved a routine closer to what the cheerleaders would actually have to do during Denver Broncos games. All participants were taught the routine, which lasted one minute and would be run several times. When judges felt that they had decided, 60 lucky participants were moved on to Round Three of The Denver Broncos cheerleading tryouts.
Preliminary rounds included moves such as kicks (left and right), turns and split leaps. Choreography of routines became increasingly difficult with each round.
The sixty participants were subdivided into two groups of thirty, with half continuing their tryout on April 1 and the other half on April 3. In what was called the Finalist Workshop, participants gathered in the Cheerleader rehearsal room at the stadium wearing approved clothing. This clothing consisted of black spandex workout top and shorts. Dance shoes and nylon stockings were considered optional. A variety of qualities considered important to being a good Denver Broncos cheerleader were assessed, including flexibility and technical ability. An undefined number were cut.
On the following Sunday, April 6, the Denver Broncos cheerleading tryouts finals took place, consisting of a business interview, another round of the routine performed during round three, and a self-composed and choreographed routine. Those asked to take place in the business interview were asked questions about the Denver Broncos, the NFL in general and information on the application. Business attire was expected, unlike during the practical portion of the auditions.
Congratulations to all those who made it!
