Von Miller the outside linbacker from Texas A&M the number one pick and number two pick overall is a consensus great pick. His rushing ability is second to none. He can also drop back into pass coverage and strong enough to run over small running backs trying to block him.
The dark horse in this draft is Mike Mohammed a sixth round pick out of California. A versatile player that can play the outside or middle linebacker position. I watched some film of him including the CU game. This guy can run, hit and has some excellent football know how, seems to be the right spot on most plays. I like this pick. The Broncos slated him for outside linebacker but with his instincts he maybe best left alone at middle linebacker where he had 91 tackles on his Pac 10 California team, excellent value for the sixth round.
The other linebacker selected in this draft is Nate Irving. Bill Parcells said this guy was potential first round pick and the only middle linebacker that he would have selected in this draft in the first round. Nate is out of North Carolina State and is a Butkus award winner. Has good speed, can cause fumbles, fills gaps well. Is not a big hitter, but is a smart player. Dropped to the third round because of a serious car accident in 2009 he did fully recover and had a good 2010 campaign.
The Broncos as an added bonus added to the special teams some speed and athletic ability. I really like the linebackers the Broncos got in this draft. In previous post I said the Broncos need a middle linebacker. Linebacker is a hole Denver needed to fill with Von Miller, DJ Williams on the outside, and one these rookies stepping up you have a very athletic and speedy linebacker core.
