Sheriff's Office Investigating Gunshot Wound

Denver Broncos' wide receiver, Kenny McKinley, was found in his home in Colorado yesterday afternoon, dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. McKinley was 23. The body was discovered by a friend of McKinley's who was staying in the home.

Arapahoe County sheriff Grayson Robinson said that the investigation is continuing and that a more detailed statement will be released to the public and the media on Tuesday. Broncos coach, Josh McDaniels, also announced that he would address the media on Tuesday.

McKinley is a former South Carolina Gamecocks wide receiver and had attended a Gamecocks game in early September to watch their win over the Georgia Bulldogs. He was two years into his contract with the Broncos but had been on the injured reserve list since the end of 2009 with a knee injury. McKinley had been attending off-season practices but re-injured his knee during the first week of training camp in August of this year.

While there have been several cases of former NFL players committing suicide including Philadephia Eagles' Andre Waters, McKinley's suicide is unusual for an active player.

Teammates refused to discuss the apparent suicide of McKinley Monday night as they attempted to come to terms with it.

This article will be updated as more information about Kenny McKinley's apparent suicide becomes available.
