What to Say When You Call
I called Eric one Friday; I was delighted at his down-to-earth nature and helpful attitude before knowing whether or not I was going to spend any money. Here's how the conversation went:
"Hi there, I would like to buy a custom-made suit for my husband's birthday, but I don't know where to begin. I've never done this before."
I could hear his smile over the phone. "When is his birthday," he said.
"January."
"Then, you'll need to have your decision made ... in the next couple of weeks."
"Okay, what's the next step?" I said. "I mean, do I buy a suit and bring it in to you, or do I buy it there ... or...." I asked.
"How much money are you looking to spend?"
"I don't know, three or four hundred?"
"Then, you'll need to buy a suit in town and bring it to me to alter. Our suits, for the bottom line fabric run from $725 to $1200."
I laughed out loud; I couldn't help it because I felt so unschooled about the subject. He was quite nice and never talked down to me throughout the entire conversation even when I said, "Well, I guess I know where to go when I'm a millionaire!"
"Actually," he said, "it's quite the other way around. You get the suit, then you become the millionaire".
After my personal research, I'm a believer.
