Does your family have a lot of get up and go, or has your get up and go gotten up and went? Either way, these sports events for Denver families can help by inspiring you to get moving. We've all seen those scary commercials that claim a large percentage of kids today won't outlive their parents due to sedentary lifestyle. What better way to change that than getting kids interested in sports? Sometimes even watching someone else play can inspire youth to take action. Here's some local teams that offer family nights and some fun venues and events that keep families active.
Join the Rockies Rockpile. Just about anyone who lives in Colorado knows about the Rockies Rockpile. These are the wonderfully cheap seats high above the action on the field. I fondly remember sitting in the Rockpile with my son one hot summer night. It was the first major league baseball game for both of us. Prices from the Rockies website: An adult ticket for the Rockpile is $4; there is a four ticket limit per person per game for $4 tickets. Rockpile tickets are available to Guests 12 years of age and younger and 55 years of age and older for $1; there is a two ticket limit per person per game for the $1 tickets. The $1 tickets are only available for purchase at Coors Field and the child and/or senior must be present at the time of purchase.
The Denver Nuggets have both family nights and youth nights. Basketball season comes every year, just like Christmas. The basketball fans in my family are looking forward to watching the nuggets go all the way next year. On youth night, kids fourteen and under enjoy free admission with a paying adult. Family night is even better. For around $70, you get four meals and four tickets to the game. That's cheaper than taking the family to a movie. The season schedule is not up yet, but last season offered 6 youth nights and 10 family nights!
Got a carload of Avalanche fans in your family? Good news, the Avalanche has family nights too. It's a bit pricier than seeing the Nuggets or the Rockies but it's an action packed night your family won't forget. The cost for a family of four to see an Avs game on family night is $99. That includes four meals with Pepsi's. Still cheaper than the movies with snacks, but at that price you might want to know what's on the menu. You have a choice between a Hot Dog, Pizza, Cheese Steak, Nacho Deluxe, Salad, Bigger Burger or Tender w/Fries according to the Avs site.
The Denver Broncos have Junior training camp and a junior cheer-leading program. How fun! I have a grand-daughter who's definitely interested in being a junior cheerleader and a grandson who might want to join that junior training camp in the future. Girls are welcome at junior training camp too. How cool is that? Training camp is for boys and girls age 6-12. The junior cheerleader program is for girls age 6-14.
Looking for something active for the whole family to do? How about Family Camp Night at the JCC pool? Talk about budget friendly - this event is free! You can always enjoy a day at the Family Sports Center in Centennial.
